I'mma say this...you cannot separate politics from morals because your morals dictate your politics.

What you believe in will influence what you vote for. And if you think that doesn't matter because "opinions are opinions," look at how some opinions show up on ballots that get voted on and become laws.

When you are in a position of influence like celebs, your morals, aka your politics, are heard loud and clear. And can sometimes be harmful.

Being central is like being neutral on your morals. Neutral on empathy and compassion. So, say it with your chest or don't say it at all.

Be antiracist, antihomophobic, antitransphobic, antibigotry. And be loud about it.

Hope and Haven is an org that works to help Sudanese refugees and IDPs with things like food, medical care, and other essentials. They are one the main orgs that I’ve personally seen as the go-to in supporting the people of Sudan.

Basmat Wasl is a volunteer org that supports families in Sudan with food and humanitarian assistance. They just launched a new campaign yesterday called “Meal of Hope”. Wonderful news! My dear friend Fadel (@fadel-dani) was able to present his graduation project at his university and received his Bachelor's degree in Information Technology! Anyone who would like to congratulate and bless Fadel can do so by donating so that he can get medical treatment and study for his master's and doctorate in a safer place.

Fadel's project was about creating an integrated system for managing the water desalination plant in Gaza electronically. This is an incredibly important project, because Israel has systematically destroyed Gaza's water treatment infrastructure, blocked repairs in countless ways, and targeted workers. It is extremely brave to be working on this project. Please donate so that Fadel can one day lend his skill to rebuilding Gaza. From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free.

Incredibly violent take of mine but I actually don’t think you need to relate to a story in any way to enjoy it. You can enjoy a story even if you can’t point at a character and insert some aspect of your personality or identity into them. In fact I would argue the need for a character like that to be present in every single story you experience is a sign of stunted growth.

I’m sure I’ve said this before on this site but I’m going to keep saying it.

The whole point of reading is to experience someone else’s perspective. To be in someone else’s brain. That’s why we do it. That character isn’t you. They’re not from where you’re from, they don’t think like you think, and they don’t respond to stimuli the same way you would. You’re supposed to read and say “I wouldn’t do that, why did this person do it?” And then, lucky you, there’s another 200 pages of why that character did that.

Reading is the closest we get to telepathy. And if you do it enough it will bleed into your life and you’ll look around at the people who do the things you wouldn’t do and you’ll start to understand why.
