RANT!
I love fantasy, sadly many fantasy stories struggle with complex topics including racism, class, and more.
One of my examples is The Dragon Prince. It’s a show I really enjoy, so I say all of this with love, but it’s down right incompetent with is storyline surrounding humans and dark magic.
The entire magic system is set around these natural sources of magic that are found in everything, but humans. (Magical caste system)
The entire value system set up in xadia is extremely tied to magic usage and when humans find a way around that using dark magic they’re treated like war criminals.
Humans are also later discovered to be able to use arcanum magic, but it’s not treated like how big of a deal it actually is.
Humans were cast out of xadia because they couldn’t use magic and relied on dark magic, if humans can use arcanum magic then why aren’t they being taught in the hopes of preventing dark magic.
The entire system stinks of eugenics due to value being assigned to the races that have “natural good” magic. This makes things extremely confusing because the war is handled like a “both sides are equally as bad” and it isn’t clearly defined on if the xadia side has the moral high ground or not. Because genuinely the xadia side is WAY worse in terms of violence.
And why is the highest power in that world, the queen of the dragons, ordering for the murder of a little ass boy.
The dragons are treated as almost divine sometimes, so why are both shown to hold absolute moral authority ( demanding no dark magic) but then order child murder.
What gets me is that the show is really inconsistent with how it wants us to view the relationship between humans, elves, and dragons.
There is way too much to cover for a single post, but it’s atrocious and I might be motivated to rant about it more later lol.
I seriously miss alternative tween girl media
It seems like shows, books and movies like that are completely dead/lost
I can’t tell you the last time I’ve seen something like daddy I’m a zombie or those rotten apple books.
Those were monumental in shaping little me
Let’s go lesbians
Been thinking about spiders a lot lately
Still a work in progress, but I really like how the face and chibi part turned out
I’m probably gonna expand the canvas to make a bg
To date probably some of my best rendering!
Vigilante is such a fun character but I think a lot of people washout his more disturbing traits in fan media.
Character design for a big future project
After I’m done updating my com sheet I’ll probably start drawing southpark fanart again
