Love a fic that presents itself as a collection of in-universe texts. Tweets describing the plot of the original text from the perspective of a layman. Essays and reports written by diegetic academics and journalists. Massively downvoted reddit posts written by conspiracy theorists that accurately predict the plot. It slaps so hard
me (reminiscing on doing aikido & mma with my sister): i'm not sure if i was ever a good floor fighter. i think it was just bad for my opponents that i was so hypermobile i could get out of locks no person should be able to get outta.
saga: that's true. and we didn't even know why. we just called you 'the wiggler.'
me: the HUH??? yall called me the WHAT
saga: you don't remember.......
since this conversation last night i've been stuck in a character voice for a gruff middle aged man called The Wiggler. i can't stop sending people voice memos as him....
and you know what? i am REALLY sick of these ads that are openly mocking people for being concerned about the products they’re selling.
Amazon’s super bowl ad where the Alexa mocks Chris Hemsworth for being worried about giving spy software control over his entire life. Waymo’s ad with the intro “the robots are coming!” mocking people who are rightfully extremely concerned about sharing the road with, or riding in, self-driving cars.
i don’t know, it’s just genuinely insane to me. “Oh, you have legitimate concerns about our shitty product? sounds like you’re just lame!!!” like what kind of “quiet part out loud” marketing is that?
Me when I contact IT and tell them yes I restarted and followed any instructions I could but computer still angry and IT says they are escalating this because it is an actual issue: I am getting a good grade in service desk ticket. Something that is both normal to want and possible to achieve.

Geralt is such a good protag to me because he is an impossibly good monster hunter and swordsman, has 1/3 of the continent's population (male and female) in love with him, is very articulate and intelligent- and yet he is still a bit of a loser. Girldad to deeply concerning teenager. Is in a 30-year-long situationship. Falls out with his best friend like they're on the playground. Spends all the money he barely scrapes up on a new jacket. Immediately ruins said jacket. So it goes.
Scrapes up all of his hard earned money for a new jacket.. because a little girl mocked him

this blog supports punching fascists
[contains quote post or other embedded content]
This is so important though: "You're gonna get in trouble for that" reveals so much. He was planning on nobody doing anything, not because nobody stands up to him, or nobody objecting to what he says. He expects good people to be goody-two-shoes rules followers, and he expects the rules to protect him no matter what he does.
Important lesson to learn from this standing up to fascists means getting into good trouble. Get into trouble if it's worth it. Fascists will never expect it.
“bits to use in everyday conversations”
This has been my main argument against "AI" from the very beginning.
OpenAI scraped the entire web. All of which had been a labor of love from humans. Wikipedia is the backbone of a lot of LLMs, and that was volunteer human labor. They stole it and now they're selling it back to us.
And worse, they're trying to destroy the free sources that they stole from. It's destruction of human knowledge on an unprecedented scale. The burning of the library of Alexandria has nothing on this.
Heartwarming story: Little girl doesn’t have to do anything to fund her dad’s surgery because his expenses are covered by his country’s universal healthcare.
Human determination: Man bikes 18 miles to work every morning because he wants to and not because he can’t afford a car and would be fired if he’s late.
Spirit of Brotherhood: Neighbors host housewarming party for elderly resident who doesn’t need help in paying rent because his pension is more than enough.
SO INSPIRING: Local middle school students bake dozens of cupcakes because their home economics class is doing a baking unit. Their school is fully funded with everything they need.
This feels like calibrating my normal detector
This Barbie is an ancient Slavic witch
“This thing can’t possibly be an antisemitic dog whistle, it’s just a commonly used phrase!”
My dude you are so close to understanding how pervasive antisemitism is
People who work within a system: okay so studies show that the normal system works 90% of the time, but because it’s very bad when it doesn’t work, we’ve set up a process to manage those outliers. We need six well-trained workers to run the system 100% of the time without any serious incidents.
CEOs and politicians, every time: Well i just saw it go right twice in a row which means the normal system which you say works 90% of the time actually works 100% of the time. We’re cutting the team down to one person pulling 18 hour shifts without breaks
If THE modern translator of the OG Odyssey text wrote this about my film adaptation I’d kill myself
Emily Wilson you’re goated
[image transcript: Nolan's Odyssey lacks many of the elements that make the poem great. It has nothing convincing to say about time, memory, history, war, or about the relationship between one warrior's glorious return and the lives of his family, adversaries, comrades, friends and neighbours. It lacks psychological, emotional, political and ethical depth. Its narrative structure is gimmicky. The writing is abysmal. None of the characters have convincing motivation for their actions or words. There are no sex scenes, and all the food looks horrible. /End image transcript]
I strongly recommend checking out the full article linked by OP, this isn't even as brutal as Wilson gets.
Until death, all defeat is psychological.
They just do that, but if you’ve never seen on do it it might be startling!
