What a nice leaf.
(Ignore the background Wade.)
Some choice photos from my snake blog, shoelacecollection!
(You should definitely follow it.)
Hovatter’s Zoo. Kingwood WV
Or at least part of it, we had to leave early due to rain. The photos are a little wonky, but after Zeus’ photos the lighting got dark FAST and my camera doesn’t handle low-light well, so I had to do some corrections there... been trying new things lately.
It’s that time of year again! Met up with my good buddy Zeus at Hovatter’s Zoo for some carrots, photos, and lots and lots of scritches.
I have a working camera again! Pterophylla camellifolia, the Common True Katydid.
Snowflakes
Icicles, Part Two. I don’t know why they’re rainbow, they were like this when I found them on the side of the road.
Icicles, Part 1 one of these things is not like the other
Part 2 in a moment, it’s much more interesting.
Ancistrocerus campestris, a Mason Wasp. Her nest was like that when I found it, unfortunately -- she was so busy relocating her babies that she paid me no mind. I wish I could have one something for her.
... Listen I don’t know enough about slugs to ID this one in particular but I am going to try.
Update: TENTATIVE Arion fuscus, I have learned a lot about slugs and the consensus seems to be that they are unholy terrors that cannot be sated.
Cute though.
Thought I’d redo this since I’m not as much a fool anymore. Doesn’t look much different but the grain is marginally reduced and that’s what matters to me. Bonus closeup under the cut!
Even a damp, dead leaf can still be pretty.
Cobweb Tangle.
If you go outside in my yard early in the morning, sometimes you can see tons of these all over the grass covered in dew. I really like that about where I live. There are spiders (and their homes) everywhere.
As best as I can figure, this is some katydid or cricket’s shed exoskeleton. I took so many photos of this to get a half-decent one, it was heck o’clock on the morning and at a weird angle above me and it was honestly a mess, but I think this turned out at least passable enough to get a good view of this strange little curiosity.
A Series of Very Fortunate Bleps.
This photoset of a bunch of rocks and some water has been marked as nsfw. I’m screaming.
