The Wizard of Waterdeep mused over the night he'd had, well... was still having.
The two of you had snuck off before what might be the final battle of your lives. Not far off in the distance he could see the looming Moonrise Towers before he turned his gaze back to what was more important.
You. In his arms. Sleeping soundly after exploring each other's bodies. Quite thoroughly, he thought to himself, but he wanted more.
But the battle ahead... he had been ready to sacrifice himself for the greater good. The weight on his chest finally had a purpose and he was going to be the dutiful chosen of Mystra and obey her command.
Until tonight. Or perhaps even before that, he wasn't sure anymore. All he knew was he'd fallen madly, deeply, in love with you. Every facet of your personality you'd revealed to him made him look at you like a brilliantly cut gem illuminated by the purest Weave, shining in the darkness that had been his existence up until now.
The orb that had weighed as heavy as earth piled upon his shoulders had gone light at what Elminster had passed on to him, Mystra's decree to get back into her good graces with his heroic sacrifice. But then, when he thought of you, it plummeted back to crush him once more. The thought of losing you, or, even worse, you getting caught in the blast, was too much to bear.
Gale pulled his arms around your sleeping form tighter, suddenly defiant of his goddess and what she wanted to take from him.
"There must be another way..." The poor wizard was on the verge of tears, a mixture of anger, despair, and a love that he hadn't felt in years since Mystra, as he whispered against you.
Between the whisper and sudden shift of his body you roused, slowly, from slumber and blinked up at him with tired eyes.
Your voice, gods above that voice was enough to make him want to burn the world if you wished him to.
"Yes, just... thinking. You know me, no rest for the wicked."
He tried to brush you off, but you refused to let him hide anymore. Gently, you cupped his cheek with one hand and gazed deep into those auburn orbs of his.
"If something is weighing on your mind, then let me know. Let me in, and I'll help you carry that weight."
That plea of yours, sincere and full of the love he'd been wanting for so long... he couldn't help but bury his face in your chest, words tumbling from that silver tongue of his less eloquently than his usual banter.
When he was done you both lay there in silence as your fingers gently teased through his wild mane. A sweet kiss to the top of his head and you finally broke the silence.
"Darling, lean your weight to me. We'll take care of this together, I'm not letting you die."
And in that moment, Gale Dekarios knew... he needed to live.
For you. The one who held his entire world so effortlessly in your hands.
