a few rules and regulations for the cafè...

1. be kind to others here. everyone here is a human too, even if a screen is separating them from you.

2. people who romanticize adult/minor ships, incest, or anything of the sort need not interact. i am not comfortable with it.

3. there won't be any sexual/smut resources here. i intend to keep my blog friendly to all ages.

4. there won't be any use of unicode here. this blog is screenreader friendly!

5. i will tag common triggers with ___ tw - if you need something else tagged, send an ask! i will do my best.

6. i'll do my best to get to any requests you have! my askbox is open, though for now i have anons turned off.

7. i intend to mostly post positivity, as i love to write it and don't see as much of it as i'd like.

8. i will also post musings, promos, the occasional meme, and any other little odds and ends i think belong here! if you'd like your promo reblogged, please feel free to drop me an IM.

How do DNIs work?

Hello Tumblr! Today, I'd like to discuss DNIs.

"DNI" stands for "do not interact". There seems to be a common misunderstanding with how these work. Typically, they're found on a blog. Let's say that, hypothetically, I have a DNI in my pinned post that says, "DNI if you interact with Bob."

This DNI does not forbid you from speaking with Bob. However, it does mean that anyone who does speak with Bob isn't welcome to speak to me for whatever reason (whether Bob is abusive, triggering, or otherwise just unwelcome).

It means that if you interact with Bob, I will not interact with you. That is a boundary.

It's up to the individual with the DNI (so not Bob and not the person who interacts with Bob) to uphold it, whether that's blocking you or simply choosing not to engage. It's also up to the individual how they choose to uphold it.

DNIs are shorthand boundaries and can be a useful tool for curating a space online where blog owners can feel safe and secure.

Yes, I hear you. I may have to interact with Bob/Bob-like people in real life, but online is my space and I am allowed to curate it how I see fit.

My blog is like my house, so my house rules will be upheld.

scrolling checkpoint!

hello there, can you sit with me for a moment? it can become really easy to scroll aimlessly through the dash. maybe you're waiting for a partner's reply, or maybe you're new and haven't gotten traction yet. maybe you're so buried in drafts you aren't even sure where to start, or maybe you're waiting on an ask to come through and give you something to talk about.

whatever the reason, that endless scrolling can really start to brew some uncomfortable feelings within us. jealousy, worthlessness, anxiety, feeling left out - all of those are so easy to start latching on to when we spend a while on the dash.

i'd love to invite you to sit down with me and put those feelings to the side for a bit. relax your shoulders, unclench your jaw, and take a nice deep breath. those feelings are just feelings. they are not morally good or bad. they do not determine your character. those feelings are your mind trying its best to tell you something, even if it's not quite true. thank your mind for trying, and tell those feelings that, while you appreciate them, they may be better suited for later. take another deep breath.

you are doing just fine, my friend. you are wanted, valued, and brilliant. your writing is good enough. your art is good enough. your blog is good enough. your characterization is good enough. i promise it is. don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

The only way that I've found which works at the moment is if you also have Chrome open on desktop. (And it's really not very easy or smooth to operate, sadly.)

Downloading and using Chrome Remote Desktop on iOS + the desktop allows you to use extensions like XKit. I can attempt a tutorial when I'm not slammed at work, but I figured to note until then that Firefox, Opera, and the like do not work as of August 2023 unless I've missed something in all my trial-and-error.

Discord Thread Tracker Bot

Do you roleplay in a group server on Discord? Do you wish you had a quick way to keep track of all your threads in various channels? If that's you, please allow me to introduce Thread Tracker, affectionately nicknamed Titi! This is a handy little bot created by my friends and Discord co-mods, @rainofthestorm (programming) and @soltrek (idea and artwork). We've been using it in our server, and it's been incredible for helping us stay on top of our writing.

Thread Tracker allows you to register and track certain channels in a Discord server as roleplay threads, and can generate a list of all your tracked threads along with who last replied. If the last poster wasn't you, that thread will be bolded, letting you see at a glance what you owe. You can also sort your threads into categories based on your needs.

You can even create a to-do list for things like starters you still need to write, plots you need to work out, or anything else that you may need a reminder for!

A couple more notes about Thread Tracker:

It works on an individual server level, meaning it will not be aware of any tracked threads in a different server.

It works with both standard Discord channels and forum posts.

It works with Tupperbox! However, you will need to register the names of your Tuppers as muses with the bot so that it correctly recognizes when a thread is your turn or not.
