we gotta get back to torrent distribution, i just watched someone eat eight grand in bandwidth charges because they ran a direct-download piracy site with local file hosting through cloudflare. torrents were invented literally for this exact reason
torrents work like this
i have a file or folder on my pc that i want to share with other people. let's call it gayshit.mp3
unfortunately gayshit.mp3 is 750mb and im not paying for discord nitro so i need another way to send it
i put it into qbittorrent and it makes a torrent file. this is essentially a very small file that points to gayshit.mp3 so other computers can find it. kinda like a treasure map
i send this tiny file to my friend, who loads it into qbittorrent. their computer takes a moment to find mine over the vast expanse of cyberspace and then (as long as my pc is running and the file is still where it should be), it gets copied from my hard drive to theirs
this is the cool part: if somebody else loads that tiny file, they can download it from both of us. if i'm offline but my friend is on, the third person can still get it. this also means that if two people have separate halves of the file, they can download the other half from each other. as long as some combination of people have the pieces between them, they can all have the whole thing.
crucially this does not require a server!!! you can just upload the file to a few people and as long as they keep it, it's still accessible. as long as somebody, somewhere is still connected, it's available forever. the only way it goes away is if everybody disconnects from it.
please learn to torrent
An expert guide to get started using torrentsTorrents are one of the most popular forms of file sharing on the internet, accounting for over
always use qbittorrent, do not use bittorrent or utorrent.

hello, i've been going through your #no more war tag and it's great. do you have any anti-war book recs, whether fiction or non-fiction?
hmmmm this one is tough. off the top of my head:
nonfiction
the works of wilfred owen & siegfried sassoon
war primer by bertolt brecht
coercion, capital & european state by charles tilly (if you want a shorter version of this thesis, read: war making & state making as organized crime also by charles tilly)
the liberal defence of murder by richard seymour
kill chain by andrew cockburn
nothing ever dies: vietnam & the memory of war by viet thanh nguyen
the shadow world: inside the global arms trade by andrew feinstein
savage ecology: war & geopolitics at the end of the world by jairus victor grove
fiction
eyeless in gaza by aldous huxley (this was my introduction in college to what principled, personal pacifism might look like)
mother courage & her children by bertolt brecht
catch 22 by joseph heller
zone rouge by michael jerome plunkett
on the beach by nevil shute
ice by anna kavan (this is a sliiiight stretch, but i liked the way this novel framed the intimate intertwining of patriarchy & its violence, war and ecological collapse)
oscar among the dandelions
THE DEFINITIVE VALENTINO ROSSI HAIR TIMELINE (1996-present)
- as composed collaboratively with fellow valentino rossi scholars on the basis of many (many) hours of determined and hair-pulling (haha) research. (some conjecture required for the early years but hopefully more or less accurate)
the new york times has such a great series of elevated butter noodles, if you ever want a super fast easy dinner that still feels grown up and you can emulsify pasta water + butter together basically the sky is your limit
ya got
gochujang butter noodles
peanut butter noodles
chili crisp fettuccine alfredo
miso butter noodles
any one of these + a bag of salad or whatever vegetable side you find easiest/cheapest, and you've got yourself a full meal that tastes far above the effort you put in.
and i have this thought when i lay in bed at night that i feel trapped inside my life. is that a normal thing?
2000 and 2001
LMAOOOO?!?! the real opening line of a 2005 article ……

Motogpblr’s obsession with Valentino’s disinterest in marriage is frankly very off putting to me. The constant pathologising of his upbringing to prove there is something fundamentally broken with how Vale chooses to have relationships. And the infantilisation of Francesca— acting like she can’t trust Valentino to love her if they’re not married, or that she doesn’t have agency in deciding whether or not she wants to marry at all. They have two children together; a far greater promise of commitment than any document, in my opinion. And if your argument is that marriage would protect Francesca in case of a divorce to be able to access child support, not only does Francesca have a successful career of her own that would support both her daughters but do you really, truly believe that Valentino who adores his kids would not want to be involved in their lives, regardless of his relationship with Francesca?
It’s all “we need more non traditional relationships and dismantling marriage as the ultimate proof of love and devotion!!” until someone that you’ve extrapolated conclusions about based off his falling out with a coworker chooses to have a “non traditional” relationship. Then it’s suddenly conservative think pieces on conservative think pieces about how women and children need a legally dedicated man in their lives to look after them. Like I said. Off putting
