Bring back the guillotine or send the billionaires out of orbit on a rocket with a trajectory of the sun.
I made a Zine about this! If anyone ever wants to print and hand it out, please do!
Oh boy, oh boy. A veteran has read this (tough shit, it's Tumblr and the government decided I'm a domestic terrorist anyways).
Honestly, spot on. Mostly.
Some things I wanna correct:
Your contract is 8 years. It can be 2 years active, the rest reserve. It could be 8 active. It could be 1. You're still property until year 8 is over. Means you only have freedom of religion too.
Basic does brainwash you - it's designed to make you react unconsciously so that even in a blind panic you still take cover and engage the target. And that means you'll hear orders and respond accordingly, yeah. Cold War really made that cult mentality stick.
Obama got rid of recruiting bonuses, don't know if Trump brought them back. Given how shit retention rates are, probably.
Some jobs actually can't deploy! But unless you're a veterinarian, yeah you're at risk.
Reasons I would encourage someone to enlist:
The only other option is homelessness.
In general, I discourage people from enlisting.
Billionaires lie. All the time.

The installation consists of 1,200 glass shards, each of which is aligned by hand. The train is moved centimeter by centimeter and each new glass shard is turned into the correct position so that the beam of light is directed to the next glass shard. As soon as the train starts moving, this creates a chain reaction of light...

There was something a trans woman said to us long before we came to realize ourselves. I think this was back in 2008 or so, I can hardly be sure of the time or site, and those specifics aren't important. We had exchanged DMs on most days for a while, and I asked her how she was doing. She replied, "I looked in the mirror and there was a pretty woman with stubble staring back at me."
I recall asking her whether this was a good thing or not, and she affirmed it was. Her body felt like hers, and she could only see herself as a girl, regardless of such things. She had simply admired her reflection for what it is, shaved, and moved happily on.
I think why it stuck with us for so long, was that it was the first time I had heard a trans woman talk about herself in such a way. I was in a few lgbt groups at the time, identifying as a gay man, and had interacted with them a number of times, finding them good company and relatable for reasons that needed another few years to come out. They had always couched such things in disappointment, as though any incongruence with femininity had snatched all the joy it brought them.
This was the first time it occurred to me, that you could learn to see yourself as inalienably feminine. That your body is a woman's body, if you want it to be, and nothing can take from you.
@unicyclehippo u were so right (mostly lovergirl Mira tho. Bc I read most of these posts in her voice)
Minneapolis comic bookstore owner Greg Ketter.
He owns Dreamhaven Books and Comics in Minneapolis and has done since the late 70s. Well worth the visit if you're local.
Their website is currently down from the sheer amount of traffic hitting it and Greg has said after they catch up with the online orders he's going to rest up for a bit before they get things back online, but for anyone outside of Twin Cities who wants to have a browse, their ABE books and Ebay where they post rare/collector items are still up.

Can't find the video at the moment, but this elderly badass was standing in tear gas yelling FUCK YOU, STOP, I'M 70 YEARS OLD AND I'M FUCKIN' PISSED!!! at ICE goons after Alex Pretti's killing.
I imagine, as noted, his website is completely slammed, but I will keep checking back to see if I can get an online order at some point.
Here's the CBS news/WCCO video on Bluesky.
There are people in the notes worried about Greg’s safety and that his identity was outed against his will.
Greg has willingly given interviews and been loudly active in the local community. He is one of many people making the choice to do so to expose the levels of cruelty and inhumanity taking place, this is not the same as taking pictures of non-consenting protestors—but thank you for being worried about him.
Please know Greg and other booksellers in the area who have becomes hubs of local activity and resistance are being looked after by the community. They are making themselves visible so people have rallying points.
Also, did you know if you shop through Bookshop.org you can choose which independent book seller to buy from, directly increasing their visibility and sales? And that bookshop.org gives a large portion of their profit to supporting independent book sellers across the country?
Now you do!

Shame might not work forever, but it *is* working *right now*.
Research into how violence occurs shows that disapproval from the people around you can help reduce it.
Key quotes from the article:
Researchers have known for decades that there are two primary types of people who perpetrate violence. The first is the small fraction who are independently motivated to commit violent acts. The second, and much larger group, are those who commit violence to seek approval and status from others. This is especially true among men who use violence to affirm their masculinity. Research on gender is particularly relevant for understanding ICE, which has an overwhelmingly male workforce and uses messages of masculinity and domination in its recruitment materials. A lot of men may be joining ICE because they think it will allow them to bond with other men and gain power in our society. ... To put it another way, the vast majority of men are only willing to engage in public violence if they feel like the people around them will approve of — and reward them for — that violence. ICE Watch works because it surrounds men seeking approval with people loudly expressing their disapproval. And the noise has the added benefit of drawing large crowds of bystanders who can quickly outnumber the ICE agents, who then have to decide if they want to escalate a situation or perhaps abandon their activity altogether.
And, the kicker? Where it takes 2 or 3 agents to make an arrest elsewhere, they are traveling by the half dozens in Minneapolis:
ICE Watch organizers have also observed that it takes many more agents to make a single arrest when they are around. In other cities, ICE traveled in groups of two or three, but in Minneapolis, we primarily see groups of 6 to 12 agents. The Department of Homeland Security has pulled agents from other cities to ramp up efforts in Minnesota, which guarantees there will be fewer deportations from the places they left. Plus, ICE's fixation on breaking up ICE Watch groups and detaining observers — often white citizens — has interrupted its original mission.
ICE Watch is shaming ICE (among other things, including documenting their crimes and providing a lifeline to those who are kidnapped).
And it's working.
And even if it wasn't working to the efficacy as shown, it's (1) cathartic to jeer at these fascists, (2) shows support to the community that you are not alone in thinking these agents are scum, and (3) still helping because everyone who joins ICE is a social pariah and knows it *because of this outward and ongoing shame*.
It doesn't matter if they think we're degenerates. Sometimes the things us "degenerates" say will stick and hit a nerve.
These boys are falling apart so fast ICE is trying to recruit therapists. Which is what inspired my earlier post about how treating these guys is a huge liability therapists don’t want to take on.
Also it is critical to us in the target area to signal unambiguous support for our neighbors and that those opposing ICE have significant and broad support.
"ICE is trying to recruit therapists" is a profoundly heartening sentence, and I thank you for it.
