being a girl and hitting puberty is so traumatic. you go from being a genderless little free thing to being hit with shaving and makeup and growing breasts and skincare and menstruation and suddenly being sexualised when like a few years ago you could take your shirt off to play in the stream and trade yugioh cards with the boys and come home covered in mud and not even think about it. and then you spend years hating being a girl and hating everything puberty did to you and wishing you could be a boy or be completely genderless again and it takes you Many years to come to terms with yourself Or you simply try to Lean In to everything and do makeup tutorials on YouTube and claim it’s for fun. like how can this be treated as normal
getting genuinely concerned by the number of ppl on this post suggesting they are trans because of misogyny like ??? perhaps some therapy comrades ?????
This is why the concept of "cis" women is insulting. It makes trans-identified females believe all other women accept oppression. But all women struggle with the added oppression that arrives with puberty. And when trans-identified females are confronted by that fact, they don't know how to respond. They end up implying that they rejected oppression in a special different way than all other women. But none of that is true. Struggling with puberty is a universal female experience.
Are there any rad aligned feminists here who are unvaxxed? I'm not anti vaxx but I skeptical of the C 19 vaxx and would like to be able to talk to others, groups who are also rad aligned feminists.
here’s the thing, if you consume porn i don’t want to hear your opinion on social issues at all. you don’t like racism but you watch videos from a site that has slavery themed porn? you want to smash the patriarchy but you’ll watch 18 year old girls get pissed on by grown men. you hate homophobes but you’ll watch porn on a site that has videos titled “lesbian forced to take cock”? you want to battle transphobia but you’re okay with pornhub recruiting trans identified teens to be abused on film for a couple hundred bucks? if you can boycott a spice brand for prejudice why can’t you do it for porn? if your activism ends the moment you want to nut, shut your fucking mouth and stop pretending like you give a fuck about any of this.
Me being gender critical doesn’t erase your identity and isn’t a call for trans people to be killed. Women are allowed to structurally analyize social theory, regardless of if you agree with them or not. If you can’t tell the difference between political analysis, and a call for a mass extermination, then you probably shouldn’t be given your own political platform.
What books can you gyns suggest about vaccines? I'm not looking to be pushed to either side of the debate, I want to try and read as neutrally as possible about the legitimate concerns people have, statistics etc Ideally from a UK/EU author if possible but others welcome too.
Does anyone have any non fic book suggestions exploring the medicalisation of pregnancy, birth, motherhood etc? I'm childfree but am listening to Whose Body Is It podcast & I'm intrigued to find out more about these topics.
I gotcha, boo! I haven't personally read some of these but colleagues have recommended them. A lot of these links are Amazon for my convenience; please don't buy from Amazon!!!
Expecting Better by Emily Oster
"What to Expect When You're Expecting meets Freakonomics: an award-winning economist disproves standard recommendations about pregnancy to empower women while they're expecting."
Pushed by Jennifer Block
"Block's research and experience reveal in vivid detail that while emergency obstetric care is essential, there is compelling evidence that we are overusing medical technology at the expense of maternal and infant health: Either women's bodies are failing, or the system is failing women."
The Medicalization of Birth and Death by Lauren K Hall
"In The Medicalization of Birth and Death, political scientist Lauren K. Hall describes how and why birth and death became medicalized events... She also examines the profound implications of policy-enforced medicalization on informed consent and shows how medicalization challenges the healthcare community's most foundational ethical commitments."
Optimal Care in Childbirth: The Case for a Physiologic Approach
"What practices and policies best promote safe, healthy, satisfying labor and birth? What harms do routine or frequent use of tests, procedures, and restrictions introduce? What nonmedical factors drive the current maternity care system? Meticulously documented, Optimal Care in Childbirth: The Case for a Physiologic Approach pulls back the curtain on medical-model management of childbirth."

“Female” and “Woman” are both important words that have a place in our society that have unfortunately had their meanings destroyed.
Female is an adjective referring to “the sex that can bear offspring or produce eggs, distinguished biologically by the production of gametes (ova) which can be fertilized by male gametes”.
Woman is a noun referring to “an adult human female”.
A few years ago due to the increase in people (men) saying things like “These females...” or “Females are...” liberal feminists suddenly decided to get rid of the word female altogether rather than reinforce its use as an adjective and not as a noun. This has led to liberal feminists now saying things like “Woman doctor” or “Woman president” which is absolutely shudder-inducing.
I agree we should not refer to women as “females” but I don’t think the solution is to replace the word in it’s entirety.
It also completely removes girls from the picture. Girls are not women as they are not adults. Now you can argue that a girl can’t become a doctor, only a woman can, but things that are age neutral like athletes should be referred to as female athlete, not woman athlete.
This push to remove female has become increasingly a TRA issue. As men who identify as women can do only that, identify as a woman. They are unable to identify as or become female.
I don’t think it’s fair to women and girls to lose our words and to lose our meanings based off what men want and what men realize they can’t have.
I used to be a person who was like "oh yeah, everyone watches porn, it's no big deal" before I ever thought critically about it.
But honestly, it's so strange how readily we accept our partners within monogamous relationships to receive sexual gratification from someone outside of the relationship.
What degree of separation is okay?
A pornstar on the screen? Are you comfortable if he has a favorite? What is he goes to a meetup for an autograph?
What about OnlyFans? Where the girls are all the girl next door, often literally? Are you comfortable if he subscribes to his classmate? His coworker? Are you comfortable if he gives monetary gifts? Can he follow one of your friends? Or one of his?
What about cam girls? Are you comfortable that they talk? That he gives her money in exchange for her attention, her service? That she knows your lovers name? Calls him by it? That their relationship is purely sexual?
Its absurd that we accept this.
I remember when I was a teen, I joined a free streaming site to get male attention. I did little strip teases on there. I met my (now ex)BF on there. He was in his 30s, but I've told how that story ends...
I quit the site at his request, but it was obvious, like yeah of course I'm going to quit the site. I'm in a relationship now.
I remember a year later he brought up in casual conversation how he'd just met another young woman on the site who seemed cool. I was shocked. I hadn't even considered that he'd still be engaging with that site. That he was still masturbating to highschool girls in their childhood bedrooms who wanted male validation. Id told him how glad I was that he had "saved me" from that site...
When I asked him about it, he told me it was no big deal. It was only porn.
Porn is also new. I'm serious, it's NEW. Sure there have been paintings, carvings and shit going back forever, but the actual visual recording of sex acts in motion is brand-fucking-new in the scheme of human culture. Technology allowed it to happen
"Everyone watches porn" A) no they don't, and B) before the internet, an extreme minority watched porn. Before VHS? The 1970s? Almost NO ONE saw porn. Whole generations born, lived, and died with never watching recordings of strangers having sex (or women being raped). Stop acting like this trash is as natural as breathing. Masturbation is natural, NOT PORN. 🙄
“One trouble with soft-core sexual imagery aimed at young men is that the women photographed are not actually responding sexually to anything; young men grow up trained to eroticize images that teach them nothing about female desire. Nor are young women taught to eroticize female desire. Both men and women, then, tend to eroticize only the woman’s body and the man’s desire. That means that women are exaggeratedly sensitive to male desire for their own arousal, and men are exaggeratedly insensitive to female desire for theirs.”

In 1992 eco-feminist Petra Kelly was shot and killed by her partner (who then killed himself). Andrea Dworkin attended the memorial with many other activists and was disgusted by the speakers who almost exclusively spoke of her partner’s devotion to pacifism and only mentioned Kelly in passing.

The fictional villain-woman who relies on infinite abortions instead of birth control has my full support. Her infinite abortions should be paid for by taxes, actually.
