To my 25 - 35 year olds, you've reached the age where people around you are starting to give up on themselves because they think it's too late. Don't let that energy rub off on you. It's not too late.
I became a tattoo artist at 49.
Married the love of my life at 50.
Got my Class A CDL at 59.
You've got time.
As long as you're breathing, you've got time.
This is an anti-despair checkpoint! You must share something you're looking forward to before scrolling on.
What I want to say: You aren't doing anything wrong by enthusiastically enjoying things other people find cringe or annoying, and you don't need to apologize for being passionate about things. Self-flagilating doesn't absolve you of your cringe and will only make yourself and others feel worse, potentially even making people around you who enjoy similar things feel insecure or feel like you're judging them.
What comes out of my mouth: hell isn't real and you can't go there
"SURVIVING"
I love yall. Whoever you are. I'll always love you person reading this.
“What are you doing with your Sunday?”
me: (gestures to this)
me: also, laundry
Since I'm therapist-posting recently:
Legitimately self-compassion is the biggest mental health life hack of all time. I'm NOT talking about self-esteem. You do NOT have to like yourself one bit. You don't have to believe that you're a good person who deserves good things. You just have to believe that you're a person who deserves the things all people deserve.
You can't get from "I'm the Worst" to "I'm a worthy and lovable person" without passing through "I'm just a regular fuckup like everybody else."
Try it on. If you're really addicted to being mean to yourself, you can start by framing it as I'm Not Special. Embrace being a regular fuckup like everybody else.
thought of this immediately and was delighted to discover it’s the same op
when we say “in real life” this is a lie to protect us. it is all real. it is all real life.
"my great grandmother who survived 3 wars and raised 10 children by herself while working in a factory watching me go to therapy because my parents yelled at me" ok but your great grandmother was also miserable. maybe your great grandmother would be happy you try your best to not be miserable
Maybe your Great Grandmother would have liked to go to therapy, but it Wasn’t Done, and even if she had, they’d have just prescribed valium and told her to stop bothering her pretty head.
Maybe she remembers the kids who didn’t make it: The ones who disappeared and who’s families stopped talking about them, the ones who died in the Asylums, and she’s glad that you don’t have to hide your troubles lest you be vanished off.
i just realized the only 2 options arent "make someone angry" or "do what they want"
being in love is like you learn theres other reactions people have besides angry or not angry
love when its safe
People universally seem to parse it as Mean but sometimes what you really, really need to hear is "this is not a socially appropriate thing to say, and you should not have said it"
ready for what the next week brings...
