Kim Wilde - Cambodia 1981
Kim Wilde is an English pop singer who first gained success in 1981 with her debut single "Kids in America", which peaked at number two in the UK. In 1983, she received the Brit Award for Best British Female solo artist. In 1986, she had a UK number 2 hit with a reworked version of the Supremes' song "You Keep Me Hangin' On", which also topped the US Billboard Hot 100 in 1987. Between 1981 and 1996, she had 25 singles that charted within the Top 50 of the UK singles chart. She holds the record for being the most-charted British female solo act of the 1980s, with seventeen UK Top 40 hit singles.
"Cambodia" is a dark, synth-pop track, released in November 1981 as the lead single for her second studio album Select. It reached number one in France and Germany, number two in Australia, and number eight in Sweden. Various international record labels initially felt the song's serious, non-traditional pop theme was "risky", but its lasting legacy has earned it classic 80s status. The Select album was not released in North America, and neither were the singles off the album. "Cambodia" was featured in the 2021 series Yellowjackets in the episode "The Dollhouse", and the 2018 horror film The Strangers: Prey at Night.

Led Zeppelin - Kashmir 1975
"Kashmir" is a song by the English rockband Led Zeppelin. Featured on their sixth studio album Physical Graffiti (1975), it was written by Jimmy Page and Robert Plant with contributions from John Bonham over a period of three years with lyrics dating back to 1973. The song became a concert staple, performed by the band at almost every concert after its release.
Kashmir is the northernmost geographical region of the Indian subcontinent, an area divided between India, Pakistan and China. None of the group members had visited Kashmir at the time of writing. Instead, Plant was inspired during a drive through a desolate desert area of southern Morocco, with the song celebrating the beauty and vastness of the human experience. They chose the name "Kashmir" because it sounded romantic, exotic, and better suited the grandeur of the music than "Morocco".
"Kashmir" was sampled by Puff Daddy for the song "Come With Me" for the 1998 Godzilla soundtrack.

i'll be honest thinking about las vegas makes me nauseous.
like this shouldnt be possible.
Every part of Vegas feels like it's pulled out of fiction and is Incredibly off-putting. It's a major city in the middle of one of the world's most inhospitable deserts
Its famous for recreating other world landmarks on a small scale. It uses this as a trap to bait people into making life ruining decisions. It's motto is essentially "never speak of what happened here". Fucked up

The Clash - London Calling 1979
"London Calling" is a song by the English punk rock band the Clash. It was released as a single from the band's 1979 double album of the same name. This apocalyptic, politically charged rant features the band's post-punk sound, electric guitar and vocals. It was written by Joe Strummer and Mick Jones. The title alludes to the BBC World Service's station identification: "This is London calling…" which was used during World War II, often in broadcasts to occupied countries. The lyrics reflect the concern felt by Strummer about world events with the reference to "a nuclear error" – the incident at Three Mile Island, which occurred earlier in 1979. Joe Strummer has said: "We felt that we were struggling about to slip down a slope or something, grasping with our fingernails. And there was no one there to help us." The line "London is drowning and I live by the river" comes from concerns that if the River Thames flooded, most of central London would drown, something that led to the construction of the Thames Barrier which came into operation three years after the song. "London Calling" fades out with a Morse code signal spelling S-O-S, reiterating the earlier urgent sense of emergency, and further alluding to drowning in the river.
"London Calling" was released as the only single from the album in the UK and reached number 11 on the UK Singles Chart in January 1980, becoming at once the band's highest-charting single until "Should I Stay or Should I Go" hit number 1 ten years later. It was the first Clash song to chart elsewhere in the world, reaching the top 40 in Australia. Over the years, "London Calling" has become regarded by various critics as the band's finest song. It is one of The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll. In 2007, it was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.

They Might Be Giants - Istanbul (Not Constantinople) 1990
"Istanbul (Not Constantinople)" is a 1953 novelty song, with lyrics by Jimmy Kennedy and music by Nat Simon. It was written on the 500th anniversary of the fall of Constantinople to the Ottomans. The lyrics humorously refer to the official renaming of the city of Constantinople to Istanbul. The song was originally recorded by Canadian vocal quartet The Four Lads in 1953. (Listen to it here!) It peaked at number 10 on the Billboard magazine charts, and was certified as a gold record.
Numerous cover versions have been recorded over the years, including by Bing Crosby, Ella Fitzgerald, and Bette Midler. One of the best-known versions of "Istanbul (Not Constantinople)" is the cover by American alternative rockband They Might Be Giants, who released it as the second single on their album Flood in 1990. The single reached number 61 on the UK Singles Chart in 1990. They Might Be Giants later recorded an electronic version of the song for their 2011 compilation album, Album Raises New and Troubling Questions.
The song is prominently featured in the 1991 episode "Tiny Toon Music Television", of Tiny Toon Adventures, for a music video segment featuring Plucky Duck trying to find a missing statue. It was used as the theme in the 1992 TV movie Black Magic. It plays as an ending to the 2005 episode "Mobile Homer", of The Simpsons, and it plays during a donut shop fight scene in the 2019 series premiere, "We Only See Each Other at Weddings and Funerals", of The Umbrella Academy.
