BUTTERing UP to ALICIA YATES —
A conversation with the Brooklyn based stylist and consultant, who has worked with the likes of Isabel Marant, Jane Mayle, Marni and most recently, Céline.
An elegant tomboy with a quiet smile and loud laugh, Alicia has a “high brow/low brow” approach to aesthetics, often pairing well-worn Black Flag t-shirts with tailored trousers or vintage men’s army pants with silk blouses. Perfectly undone.
Alicia has been photographed for her street style by, Bill Cunningham, Garance Doré, The Sartorialist, and others.

BUTTER: At BUTTERelixir we love nothing more than to be inspired. Yoga, Art and Fashion all intersected in a perfect and symbiotic way when we conceptualized our line. Being a creative, can you tell us what fashion, art and yoga mean to you?
ALICIA: I love the limitless potential for exploration and expression of self that connects the three.
Art and design have always been huge drivers in my life; the constant redefining and refining of an aesthetic sensibility excites me, in all ways, from styling a client to working with and manipulating spaces.
Yoga is a relatively new element for me. Practicing hot yoga with Tony has been one of the best things I have done for myself. It’s humbling and empowering; challenging and necessary.
BUTTER: We couldn’t be more thrilled that you keep BUTTER by your side. What is it about the line that resonates with you?
ALICIA: BUTTERelixir is a beautiful constant in my life and plays a huge role in my simple, but well-curated beauty regimen. It adds a sublime sensory layer to my mornings and evenings that I can’t imagine living without.
You know you’ve discovered something special when you want to share it with everyone you love.
BUTTER: You’re a very aesthetically oriented person. What are your thoughts on beauty?
ALICIA: I keep it simple. My approach to beauty mirrors my approach to life; minimal, clean and effortless.

Photo by Andrew Stinson. Styling by Alicia Yates. Creative by me. More soon. An outtake of Alix wearing an amazing Céline jumpsuit, styled by Alicia. For a more attainable option, I've got my eye on this jumpsuit from Topshop for the upcoming holidays. Alicia used Céline’s large bell necklace as a belt, I’ll have to try this with my baby bell and a coat this winter.
