It’s finally done! This was a labor of love for Hang the Fool by @arcanebarrage. 

The effects were heavily borrowed from this piece by robdraper, who does a lot of great stuff on non-traditional media, like paper cups and plates. I wanted to do something on brown paper (yes, it’s an old paper bag I cut up and ironed flat, lol), and the scrolls and flourishes seemed perfect for my favorite cowboy.

I won't get better at portraits if I don't practice them. This was meant to be John Boyega, but the jaw gave me trouble and it's not much of a likeness. Still! I'm working on it.

New inks! Not crazy about this style, but it's so fast I can finish the letters quickly and then play around with effects.

Limited palette portraits are kind of my favorite thing, I’ve realized. Maybe because I don’t hold myself accountable for much when I do them, because just working in color is outside my comfort zone.

Preston gets a bad rap because for some damn reason they decided to make him a quest hub for an endless stream of randomly generated pointless missions but at least if you play on PC there’s a mod that turns that nonsense off.

Taking another stab at Frank Castle, this time focusing on what @jesse_hamm calls "burn and bury" for light and shadow. Need to buck up and try this with ink; watercolor graphite just doesn't suit. Boo.

Part 2 in my series of white male Marvel characters staring blankly ahead, and hopefully the last. I just *had* to try my hand at those bruises, which are well-researched and made it a lot easier to guess at the anatomy underneath. One day I might be able to go back to drawing faces without first sketching the skull underneath, but today is not that day. Hello, Mr Zygomatic Bone! I'm glad I haven't completely lost my touch at likenesses, since it's been a long time since I tried one. It's super satisfying to see one emerge from a bunch of blue and red guidelines.
