So your position is that the Dark One has NO advantage against a normal human (one fifteen years his senior who has had one swordfighting lesson in the last 260 years) as long as the normal human can stand? Okey dokey then.

Hey, remember that time when David was able-bodied and Hook didn’t fight him but sneaked up behind and coshed him over the head? Fighting a sick David would have been of no use to him (and also, frankly, David knocked off two fully armed and armored mooks while bleeding from a wound and CARRYING A BABY–I’m not sure that Killy could have beaten him even if he was on the verge of death). In any case, we know “I don’t fight cripples” is a lie because of the first duel with crippled Rumple.
I’m thinking of cases where Hook sold an innocent child to the Lost Boys rather than fight, or spent decades/centuries as Pan’s and Cora’s lackey rather than stand up to them, or used poppy dust against Tiny the Giant, or shot Belle in the back after she and Rumple let him go, or tortured Archie, or kicked a defenseless beggar, or went after Zelena when she had no magic, or stood around and asked Emma and Regina to fight the Chernobog. There certainly have been occasions when he fought an equal or superior enemy without cheating, but it’s very far from his first choice.

Actually, Killy’s the one who never lets Rumple live his damn life. Every clash they’ve had, and certainly in the present, KILLY’s the one who started it.
Rumple’s trying to live his damn life in SB with his true love and find his son, and Killy shoots her in the back, stalks and poisons Rumple, and tries to destroy the whole damn town (twice) to get back at Rumple. Rumple is two days out of six months in a cage when Killy busts in and demands his help, then comes back MULTIPLE TIMES to blackmail him with Belle’s safety and happiness, which led to Rumple blackmailing him back (except that all he asked was for Killy to shut up and leave him alone). Rumple only tried to kill Hook when it’s the one way to sever the Dark One and throw it in the hat (which by the way, Killy is perfectly willing to “sacrifice” himself for a season later–Rumple just should have asked!) Rumple was trying to STOP the Dark One from taking over; if he had, it wouldn’t have gotten out and possessed Emma. Rumple was trying to live his damn de-powered life when Emma kidnapped him and Killy shrugged and said anything that happened to him was okay. Rumple was trying to live his damn life and win his wife back after drawing the sword when Dark Killy forced him into a swordfight and then tried to send him to hell. Rumple was trying to live his damn life and save his wife and baby when Killy told everyone that if Rumple had power he would try to RULE THE WORLD. Rumple was trying to live his damn complicated life when Killy “helpfully” gave Belle a play to stay (even though she had an apartment and wanted to stay at Granny’s), and later tried to convince Belle that Rumple would hurt her even when he’d already backed off.
If ONLY Killy would let Rumple live his damn life.
Why SHOULD he let it slide?
It’s not a question of “letting it slide”–it’s the fact that using poison is not honorable. Gloating that you finally get revenge and anticipating skinning a human alive, whether he’s a villain or not, is not the act of a man who has “given up vengeance for Twu Wuv” as he claims in his freaking wedding vows about two hours later.

And in addition to that, I’m also capable of empathizing with characters who have problems–and who are dark!–without wanting someone like that in real life. Shocking, I know. But strangely enough, perhaps due to the fact that I’m capable of differentiating between fiction and reality, I can like characters like Rumplestiltskin. I find that his journey through darkness resonates with me because he is flawed and human, and because he screwed up like all people do. Would I date someone like him? Hell, no. (And I’m bi, so yes, I’ve dated men). Would I date anyone on OUAT? Probably not. Even Belle has some serious judgement issues that I’m not sure I could live with. But you know what, Nonnie? They’re fiction.
That’s the funny thing about liking fictional characters. I can like whomever I want, and can empathize with them - and yes, even point out why they aren’t pure evil! - without wanting to be like them or be around anyone like them in real life. I can even create characters like that without being like that in real life. Fiction isn’t required to mirror reality, and my fictional tastes have no bearing on my conduct in the real world.
So, while I appreciate your patently false attempt to sound like you give a damn about me, you’re welcome to take your bullying elsewhere. Because, frankly, if you cared about me, you wouldn’t have sent this message on anon. I understand that you’re butthurt because a ship you don’t like got a happy ending, but why don’t you try concentrating on what you do like instead of sending hate to people who like things you don’t?
And because your reference to “toxic shit” clearly meant Rumbelle, riddle me this: which relationship between these two are more toxic? 1) A man who doesn’t take no for an answer, pushes a woman into a relationship so hard that she ends up putting her morals aside to keep him happy, and then takes away his agency by doing the exact thing he begged her not to. 2) A man who screws up, gets kicked to the curb by his wife after doing some pretty bad things, and then isn’t taken back until he realizes he was wrong and corrects his bad behavior. Honestly, I don’t want either of those men for the many reasons canon provides us, but if you’re fearing toxic shit on your television, Nonnie, let’s just say this show gives you lots of reasons to worry, and lots of them have nothing to do with Rumplestiltskin.

I can promise you nonnie, like @toseehowthestoryends, I and my ship mates know the difference between real and fictional. We may be drawn to certain characters because of their story or because they resonate within us. Does it mean we would hang out with them in real life? No because they don’t exist in real life. I am straight nonnie. Would I marry a man like Rumple, I doubt it. I wouldn’t be in a relationship with Belle either if I was gay or bi. Real life people are more nuanced than characters. I feel more drawn to well written characters because they seem more real. There are some traits of both Rumple and Belle I would desire in a mate and that is devotion, loyalty, intelligence, and gentleness.

I mean, calling a character a hero for not going through with an evil plan is EXACTLY what CSers did with Killy in S5? I thought it was established that’s a perfectly good way to become a saint? Remember how all the CSers were up in arms when Eddy said at the beginning of S6 that Killy was going to continue on the road to being a hero or some such nonsense? (Spoiler: Road to being a hero meant “tell lie after lie.”) “But he’s ALREADY A HERO! OMG, what more does he have to do?????”

Ya know what pisses me off? Emma can make someone a Dark One, against his will, against his express dying wish, and no one bats an eyelash.
Yet, people get up in arms about Rumple temporarily trapping Belle on a boat …
Both of them were just trying to protect the people they loved.
Killy also restrained Emma with magic, helped Zelena steal her magic, and knocked her out.
Regina made Zelena promise to take Henry out of town if they “lost” the final battle–something we KNOW Henry would never go for.
And I hate to bring it up (this is NOT ANTI-BELLE) Belle has used the dagger on Rumple.
This show has a huge problem with issues of agency and consent in general. These guys seriously don’t understand what a big deal it is to have your agency and autonomy violated.
The problem isn’t “Rumple did it to protect Belle and gets shit and Emma doesn’t get shit for going against Killy’s wishes”…
The problem is BOTH were awful, but one was framed as awful while the other was framed as the desperate act of a desperate woman in love. That’s the problem.
Another problem is people making excuses for those shitty actions.

In Eclipse, Edward forbid Bella from travelling outside of Forks (like going to Seattle) because vampires were running around and he could not easily protect the frail, fragile, clumsy, accident-prone human from getting killed. He also told her to stay in contact with him at all times so he would know where she is, and he also tried to tell her who she could and could not spend time with (like Jacob, for example). He even goes so far as to trash Bella’s truck so she can’t drive it anywhere and so Edward has to take her places until the “threat is taken care of”.
He did way more than this, but this was the most relevant example I could come up with this quickly. Now, any reasonable person would see this and say, “Wow, this behaviour is controlling, abusive, and frankly disgusting.” That person would be right. That is disgusting.
Why? This man is telling a woman that she is unable to make her own choices, should not be allowed to make those choices because she doesn’t know better, and that she is so frail and weak that he has to decide what she does, where she goes, and who she associates with. And when she disobeys him, he punishes her by further taking away her agency.
What Rumple did was, truly, not that different. He trapped Belle on the ship with magic so she could not leave, making the choice for her that she would stay there. We all know how that ended up.
Rumple then slaps a cuff on her (a fucking cuff. Do we see the symbolism there??? Or are we willfully ignoring this shit too???) that would let him know Belle’s location at all times. How is that different from Edward telling Bella she needs to disclose her location all the time? It’s actually worse because Belle can’t even ignore that “request”; she has no magical ability or way of taking the cuff off or negating its power. Rumple will always know where she is all all times.
In both instances, this is a HUGE breach of privacy and shows a complete lack of trust.
The excuse of “he was just protecting her!!!” is fucking garbage and we all know that. Belle never made a request that Rumple use his powers to “protect” her in tough situations. He didn’t even ask, so Belle never consented to being trapped or being cuffed. Belle’s agency was fucking steamrolled in favour of a man making these decisions for her.
Here’s a possible solution that makes more fucking sense and is a lot fucking healthier: Rumple grabs a charm and puts a spell on it, so if Belle is ever in danger, all she would have to do is touch it and call for help and he would come for her. Or poof her away. And he would OFFER the charm. This way, Rumple is still giving Belle a choice in the matter. He’s not forcing her into a situation or telling her what to do; he’s offering his help SHOULD SHE REQUIRE IT AND CHOOSE TO USE IT.
But that’s too sensible for this show. But anyway… I drew the Twilight comparison because you seem to be perfectly fine with a man taking away a woman’s agency and ability to make her own choices and basically infantilize her, so I just assumed you liked Twilight.
But I guess the thing for you is Edward is a “teenage hearthrob" and Rumple is a “middle-aged hearthrob"

Ok so…saying that Rumple did what he did to Belle because he was frustrated with her is really fucking gross and I’m gonna tell you why:
1) You’re putting the blame on Belle.
“Well, he only told her to shut up ‘cause she was talking too much!”
“Well, he only pushed her ‘cause she was in his way!”
“Well, he only punched her ‘cause he was frustrated with her for not doing x when he told her to!”

I don’t know if you meant it or not, but how you phrased that is really fucking loaded. You said “Rumple was frustrated with his wife for not listening to him so he trapped her on a ship and cuffed her.” Considering a wife used to be property and was expected to be 1000% subservient to her husband, this sounds like Belle should be listening to Rumple no matter what and if she doesn’t, he automatically has the authority to override what she thinks or does. I am really sick and tired of being lectured by strangers on the internet and their stupid assumptions about me and my other shipmates. Yes, I read Twilight, and I was not fond of it and I thought Jacob could be just as controlling as Edward and I didn’t like that Bella made her decision based on fear of dying. They were all dysfunctional in that novel. Now let’s get back to Ouat which has nothing to do with Twilight! I wasn’t blaming Belle at all and if you read what I said as both actions being wrong, you would know that! I was just explaining the differences between the two actions. She was told she and their unborn child was in danger and did nothing to ensure her safety and their child’s safety. Instead of talking it out like two mature adults about to be parents they yelled and in Belle’s case got mentally cruel and let Hook taunt Rumple about his first wife which she knew hurt him badly and he got angry and lashed back at her in the same way. They both failed here because they let their anger get in the way of what was really important and that was the life of their child who has been directly threatened. You and I and any sane person would have put it aside and did what must be done to protect the child. That is not victim blaming that is holding two adults responsible for their actions. Was what Rumple did wrong, Hell yes and Belle had a right to be angry about what he did but she is not innocent in this and both Rumple and Belle’s irrational fear and anger and refusal to communicate led to Gideon being kidnapped! They acknowledged in episode 10 that they were BOTH WRONG! As to Emma being more selfish well call me a hypocrite but to me a child’s life trumps losing a boyfriend. The consequences for Emma’s actions almost cost everyone their lives and for the DO’s to snuff out the light. To me what she did was worse because in trying to save one person’s life, she put that person above her son, her parents, and a whole town. It is the same selfishness that drove Belle and Bae to resurrecting Rumple only for him to be traumatized and hurt by a psycho and lose his beloved son in the process. Rumple feared losing his child again and the more frustrated he got, and the more desperate he got led him to go off the rails. He never stopped Belle from leaving before but now his child is involved and it hasn’t been that long since he lost Bae and he never dealt with that which led to his extreme reactions. Again not right, but that doesn’t mean I don’t understand why he and Emma did what they did. Belle wasn’t acting rationally either after listening to a dream version of her son, she forgot any good in Rumple and just lashed out at him even at one point using their child as a weapon and I don’t care what you say, threatening to take a child away so that they will never see their father based on not actual facts but on fear and listening to others is not good. Belle’s actions caused an equal reaction in Gold. He has more to answer for than she does in this situation but that doesn’t excuse her actions. Again not blaming her, just holding both accountable for their own actions. Belle let her own fear and impulsiveness take over and led her to give up her child which ended up with Gideon growing up in an abusive, loveless, manipulative situation. Let’s face it people, Rumbelle both screwed up this season and I am sick of seeing people accusing others of misogyny and victim blaming which is far from the case here. Victim blaming is basically saying the victim asked for it. I NEVER said that. Holding people accountable for their actions is saying no they didn’t deserve that but they made mistakes too. That is what I was pointing out. Were both Emma and Rumple wrong, YES! I just think Emma’s mistake was worse. Were both Emma and Rumple selfish? Yes one more than the other but still selfish. I also understand Belle’s actions by the way and was just as horrified and frustrated because of Rumbelle talked, this would have been resolved. CS on the other hand never talk anyway and until they do, everything will be swept under the rug.
I am really tired of this argument so how about we just agree to disagree after this because I just want to enjoy the happy ending Rumbelle just got!

If peoples don’t get why it is creepy to see the hook with the rings used to promote the CS wedding, just imaging if they did the same thing for the Rumbelle wedding?
Just imagine the two wedding rings dangling on the Dark One dagger. See how creepy it is? This murder weapon used to promote something romantic as if it wasn’t problematic with the excuse “This object totally represent the character! That’s why it’s used in this picture!”
No it doesn’t. And a murder weapon is not romantic.
Hook’s hook is an iconic part of the character, I really don’t see a problem with it personally.
It’s also just his appendage on that side. Kind of different from something you have to pick up and wield, Hook almost never takes his hook off because it’s his prosthetic.
It’s less like the dagger and more like saying Regina couldn’t hold a wedding ring in her hands since she’s crushed hearts with them. They’re still her hands. Hook’s hook is still his limb.
Luckily most people don’t think that amputee’s prosthetics are creepy.
Somehow I doubt that if the Rumbelle wedding had been promoted with a picture of Rumple holding the rings in his hand you would be complaining that it was creepy and problematic. Despite the fact he used that hand to murder his last wife.

But it’s so easy to attack people and act like you don’t understand what they mean right? You didn’t “ended me” honey, you just proved that you CSers are unable to stay away from the anti CS post.

TBH I’ve seen a fair amount of Rumbelle merchandise that use the dagger and the rose as symbols of their relationship, even though the dagger is used to kill people at times and the rose is actually Belle’s dead fiance.

Hook’s hook is an iconic part of the character, I really don’t see a problem with it personally.
It’s also just his appendage on that side. Kind of different from something you have to pick up and wield, Hook almost never takes his hook off because it’s his prosthetic.
It’s less like the dagger and more like saying Regina couldn’t hold a wedding ring in her hands since she’s crushed hearts with them. They’re still her hands. Hook’s hook is still his limb.
Luckily most people don’t think that amputee’s prosthetics are creepy.
Somehow I doubt that if the Rumbelle wedding had been promoted with a picture of Rumple holding the rings in his hand you would be complaining that it was creepy and problematic. Despite the fact he used that hand to murder his last wife.

And given that you only commented on the ableist part of the post, not the Hook or CS parts, your response was perfectly respectful of the anti tags she chose to use.
Now if she had tagged ‘anti disabled people’, ‘anti disability’, anti amputees’, ‘pro ableism’, something along those lines, then she would be completely right in claiming the post was perfectly tagged and we should not have commented. But as it stands, she has no such tag in regards to the ableism on the post, so no grounds to claim a hijacking.
And frankly, I would much rather be a post hijacker, than a bigot who posts disgusting abliest posts in the main tag.

The OP refuted the accused ableism, so your argument---that you need not respect the tags because the post lacked the tags you require---holds no water.
Also, these users would not have jumped on the post if it wasn’t anti-their-favorite-ship/character, so they can’t use the excuse that they only did it because ableism. That’s so thin, everyone can see through it.
