2025 Writing Round-Up

Thanks for the tag, @monbons, and hi everyone! I’m excited to do a roundup of all the fics I’ve written this year! You can check out last year’s roundup here, which I’m still quite proud of, and this year's film and book posts too.

This year I wrote for three fandoms. Twenty-three fics and 123,000 words. Five trans-centered stories and eleven song-lyric titles. My most popular fic was a trans!Henry E-rated fic (just like last year, funnily enough), with my firstprince soulmates fic in close second.

Thanks for tagging me last week @thewholelemon, @rimeswithpurple, @fiend-for-culture, @run-for-chamo-miles and @the-beard-of-edward-teach! I loved seeing all the amazing things you're working on!

I've finished my pinch hit fic for the jayvik RBB, and I'm still working on my collab with Pato (40k+ and going), but unfortunately I can't share anything from either until September.

In the meantime, I've started drafting my COC fic. I've had the mad idea of writing a fic that uses all the prompts with one chapter per day. I probably won't make it, but a woman can dream. Here's a little snippet:

“I bet you’re happy to see the back of me. Two blissful days without seeing my freckled face. Absolute paradise. A bed to yourself, so that you can spread out.” “Snow.” “And you get to eat on your own,” he continues, his cheeks flushing. “To go to bed without me keeping you up with my chatter.” “Simon.” He stills, his blue eyes finally meeting mine. “You can come around. If you want.”

I've also been tinkering with the idea of a pregnancy jayvik fic.

“Do you?” Jayce asks, his voice low and tentative. “Do I…what?” Viktor says, blinking. “Want to have babies?” Jayce asks, wetting his lips. “A family.” I have you, Viktor wants to say. You’re my family. He knows Jayce considers him as such. He invites him to his mother’s house for every single celebration—Christmas, birthdays and Día de los Muertos—Viktor may not be a Talis by name, but he’s always invited to all of them. He looks at Jayce, feeling his heart doing an odd little somersault in his chest as he confesses, “Yes. I…I would like to have my one family one day. To have a baby.”

another huge piece of advice: separate out 'tidying', 'cleaning' and 'organising' in your head. they're not the same thing and a lot of paralysis and overload comes from either misidentifying what your space needs, or trying to do all of them at once with conflicting goals.

TIDYING means clearing space, making your environment orderly and inviting. it usually entails removing clutter from surfaces, clearing the floor so you can move around easily, and creating psychological ease by putting everything visibly in its place. It's very visual, and can also involve things like straightening picture frames, squaring pillows, folding blankets on the couch, etc. It reduces chaos and noise and makes a space comfortable.

ORGANISING means sifting through belongings, ensuring that what doesn't need to be kept is thrown out and what does need to be kept is kept well. This often means categorising by room and function – teaspoons go in the teaspoon drawer, and the teaspoon drawer stays in the kitchen. It can also mean indexing things so you can find them easily (markers sorted by colour, paperwork divided into topical folders, books alphabetised) and preserving things (moving photos out of direct sunlight, keeping open flour in a sealed container, sleeving trading cards).

CLEANING means removing built up dirt, dust and grime, reducing the level of environmental contaminants and making your space sanitary. Bacteria are a fact of life, they love to hang out in dust and cling to pet hair and multiply on any given surface. Cleaning is how you keep that stuff in check, preventing it from building up to the point it affects your health. This means wiping frequently touched surfaces with disinfectant, sanitising utensils (doing the dishes), washing bedding and clothes (and yourself), and sweeping/vacuuming and taking out the trash to physically remove dirt from your home.

Tidying is not the same thing as organising – shove the mail, bills, dirty teaspoons and your gardening gloves in a drawer, and you've tidied the table. Sort the paperwork into piles by deadline, put the teaspoons in a cup, and roll the gloves together so they don't get separated, and the table is untidy but organised.

Similarly, a tidy or organised space can still be filthy. Just because all the yellowed newspapers and trash bags are sorted by date in the basement, out of sight, doesn't mean they're clean. A chaotic, cluttered space can still be very sanitary if it's being kept clear of refuse, and wiped and dusted often.

Sometimes tidying makes your space less organised, and vice versa. Organising often shakes out a lot of dust and makes the space dirtier. The classic "it's even worse than when I started" feeling is often the result of going into a room with the intent of tidying, then actually starting the task of organising instead. It's a lot easier to tidy an organised space, and organising first is usually the right instinct, but the distinction isn't intuitive so the sudden cluttering effect can be really demoralising. Remember they're three different things with different goals. Sometimes they overlap, but sometimes they conflict. That doesn't mean you're doing it wrong.

BTS deciding not to summit their work for the Grammys after knowing they’d most likely win next year is precisely what integrity looks like and I wish a lot of Latin artists would do the same thing.

The Grammys didn’t create that “Best Asian Music” category this year to be diverse. They did it to continue boxing non English speaking artists but especially BTS, so they won’t have to nominate them in the main categories with the rest of their peers. This was the Grammys telling BTS they’ll give them a Grammy win but under their own boxed category. We give you the scraps and you are supposed to take them. They said no.

They’ve been doing this for years under the disguise of diversity. “Best Traditional Country Album” a new category introduced after Beyoncé won in the Best Country Album category because they couldn’t stand a non white artist redefining that genre. “Best African Music” being introduced in 2024 to keep Tyla away from other pop girls. And “Best Latin Song” being introduced for this year along with Best Asian Music after Bad Bunny right fully dominated all of the charts last year. And mind you, Brazilian artists cannot even submit their work for this category because the rules say it has to be 51% in Spanish, even when Brazilians speak Portuguese but are Latin people.

It was never about diversity. It’s about boxing and categorizing these artists when global music (or more like non English music) is becoming bigger each year and this is the only way they can keep their American/British peers safe in their space.

In BTS’ latest album ARIRANG, they have a song called Alien where they describe feeling alienated by the industry duo to their xenophobic behavior. Them creating this category when they released one of the biggest albums of the year is proving them right. At the end, this was the right choice.

Great of BTS for rejecting the Grammys full on and not play into their very tokenization game.

WIP Wednesday

Good evening from me and my ancient cat/office assistant, who is aggressively impeding helping me type.

Hey, on Sunday I posted another microfic that I had hanging out in drafts. This one is a Mars House one. I do think I'm going to post all those microfics on ao3, I just don't want to lose them to the tumblr black hole.

I have a snippet because I am a writing writer who writes, okay? That's why. This is hot-goals-summer adjacent. I read this helpful tip about habit-building and how it helps to embody the identity you want to become when you're just starting out, instead of waiting until you are allowed to claim it. I am a writer. I am a runner. I finish books, I finish fics, I finish knitting projects. I do feel like it takes some pressure off. Instead of waiting for some magical moment when I transform into a writer, I can just be a writer and then ask myself--what would a writer do? Send me some good vibes that this keeps working.
