Summary: Simonās in his thirties and suddenly unemployed. His old job had its downsides, but he felt useful, full of purposeāand he didnāt have to worry about pesky things like making more than one friend, or minding his personal safety, or even picking out his own clothes (the uniform might have been the best part). Now heās adrift, and he canāt even talk about itārevealing even an ex-Batmanās secret identity comes with some pretty hefty penalties, after all. But that shouldnāt be a problemāwhoās he gonna tell, anyway?
READ IT NOW! (IF YOU WANT)(HOPEFULLY YOU WANT)
thank you to @monbons and @bookish-bogwitch for the beta read! and thank you to @monbons for my gorgeous banner!
thank you to the mods of this super fun fest! more chapters to come when the fest is over.
thank you for the tag @monbons I enjoy seeing your dolls come to life so much!! As someone who could not sew a button to save her life, I'm absolutely awed by your skills!
I haven't made much progress on my fic lately. Writing this new chapter is a challenge and I haven't had much time to think about it, let alone write anything, and somehow it's been a month since I've share words already???
I've managed to write 120 words today so hopefully I won't get off that train just yet and write some more in the coming days. Fingers crossed.
In the meantime, here are some old words I stumbled across while looking for something in previous chapters (chapter 7 is very spoilery and I'm afraid I won't be able to share much of anything from it. Even when I do eventually write anything shareable)
Under the cut to give Simon his privacy. You understand.
In the safety of his mind, Simon could play it again. The memory.
Mr Pitchās breath on his neck. Warm. So warm. Making his skin ripple with barely contained excitement.Ā
His eyes, boring holes in his soul. Taking his breath away.
And the long, slender fingers that reached for his face.Ā
In his imagination, they did not stop.
They cupped his face. His cheek. Held his jaw.Ā
Strongly.
Firmly.
Upward.
In his imagination, Simon bared his neck to Mr Pitch.Ā
An offering.
And his pagan god accepted, sowing reverent kisses on the fine skin of his neck.Ā
On his shoulders and his torso.Ā
On his stomach.Ā
Lower, lower, lower.
Pyjama bottoms around his ankles.
Fingers caressing the soft, soft skin of his thighs.
Simonās heart was thundering.Ā
His breath was shallow.
Wet fingers teased his nipples.Ā
His hand trailed along his body, reaching down, down, down.
He bit his lip, body tensing, as his hand found its destination.
In his imagination, the pagan god kneeled at his feet.Ā
And Simon lost himself to the agony of bliss.

@leithillustration @lixdoesntknow
And also @ileadacharmedlife because you've always been very supportive and I'm very grateful
big thanks to @leithillustration @monbons and @thewholelemon for the tags!
I waited too long to try and make my post last night and literally fell asleep on my laptop trying to put this together. It has been a WEEK but I have shockingly accomplished some goals!
Found a new dentist and finally made an appointment
Officially own my first car! I mean it's the same car I've been driving for years but I officially bought it off my parents and went to the DMV and got it inspected and did all the big paperwork like a proper grownup!
Actually managed to produce a handful of new sentences. My doc is about 80% skipped lines and filler text and sassy notes to myself but progress is happening
so without further ado we'll get to the main event:
I mustāve properly confused him because he doesnāt even argue. I stand outside the door, bracing for him to come back out and have a go at me for dragging him around his own flat, but he never comes. After a few minutes of silence, I hear him pull aside the curtain, and start the shower.Ā
I breathe out a sigh of relief. It was a risky move but I like to think Iāve learned some things about Simon over the years. When youāre doing something risky itās best to not let him think. Once the gears in his brain start turning they donāt stop.
I'm on a weird off day now and am once again slapping this out while fighting to keep my eyes open so imma skip tags for today
as someone who has been involved in union organizing through my dad's union since i was literally in second grade, the way that people on tumblr think unions work drives me literally insane
unions do so much more than just strike. unions bargain. unions sit in at meetings with upper management. unions help people navigate benefits. unions coordinate aid drives for disabled members. my union ran a donations campaign for me for the interim between the end of my allotted paid leave and my disability claim
"unionize your workplace" means so much more than "talk to your coworkers about striking." you gotta actively know what a union is and what a union isn't before you can form one. calls to unionize should lead to more people learning their rights and learning how unions work, and coordinating with orgs like seiu and the teamsters and the aft (and if you don't know what those are, look them up).
My union found me a legal expert to help me check over my last redundancy settlement for free, provided private medical cover whilst I was unemployed, and negotiated a good deal on cheap insurance for their members. It is so much more than strikes.
Thank you @thewholelemon and @monbons for the tags today, I super appreciate it!
I'm going to break the rules, but I think it will be allowed as I have been chipping away at a little ole fic called Picket Fence Is Sharp As Knives and I'm happy to announce the next /final chapter is heeeeeerrrrreee.
There's an epilogue to come, but fear not, it's already done. Cheers to not having to wait years for the next installment.
Thank you @aristocratic-otter for enduring my months of silence and then letting me barge back into your life asking you to read some words I hastily typed out. I appreciate you and your time.
Anywhoozle... Here you go! I hope it was worth the wait.

Thanks for the tag @thewholelemon. I am so excited to see you making progress on CORB and can't wait to get my hands on it to beta <3. In the spirit of continued accountability, an update on the goals I set last week! Find both Stitches and Sentences below the cut.
STITCHES
To recap, as of last week I'd finished 22 dolls. I am now up to 27, which doesn't seem like much progress EXCEPT so many more of them are dressed! Specifically, I've clothed all my "summer" dolls because I am going on a beach trip next week and will have access to some new and fun backgrounds for photoshoots!
Speaking of photoshoots, I finalized four doll sets and photographed them, which feels good. The pictures are turning out great, and because it is SO HARD to sit on anything for several months, have a sneak peek of one. Can you guess who is who?
I also started mass producing the pieces I need for all my remaining dolls, including 14 standard-body Simons and 7 standard body Bazzes (half vampire, half non-magical). Some of my concepts require specialized bodies (bent legs, pointed feet, an actual booty for Simon...) so I will make those later. Please admire my little pile of flat Simon pieces below.
I will be taking these with me on vacation and hopefully returning with stuffed body parts--definitely amusing for the TSA agents to see in my bag. lol
SENTENCES
I continue to struggle with visible progress here. I did not write for 15 minutes on any day this week, but I did think about my book nearly constantly. I also threw out huge chunks of my previous outline because nearly at every step of this thing I keep realizing the original idea was too ambitious, too sprawling, and that will be hard to manage within the confines of a traditional YA word count. So... I dropped characters and plot lines and am trying to tighten arcs as a result. Again, not visible progress, or particularly sexy to share, but progress nonetheless. As a reward, have some Xavi sentences I wrote many moons ago and *love*, but that will almost certainly not make the cut.
There were a million ways to mispronounce his name and Xavi had heard them all. Ex-zay-vee-er. Ha-veer. Simply X followed by a blank stare. Ironic really, since Xaviās name wasnāt especially difficult or obscure. In fact, the internet had once informed him that it was among the top 100 names for baby boys.
The real issue, Xavi knew, was that his name begged a question. On class rosters or stick-on name tags, Xavier López Bonilla might as well have read, ādo you speak English?ā or, perhaps, āwhere are you really from?ā
Xavi had sat through years of roll call as mouths filled with cotton, Rās not so much rolling as stuttering and stumbling. By fifth grade, heād given up. If a teacher asked how it was said, heād inform them he preferred his nickname, pronounced āha-vee.ā If any other iteration made an appearance, heād just deal; white-washed Zay-vier was better than the lovely lilt of Spanish butchered on foreign tongues.
Thanks for sticking with me! If you have goals or progress to celebrate, I'd love to celebrate with you!
For the game ask, prompt "what is a mammoth doing in the Senate", AO3 tag "crack" š¦£š
@dohrnaira! You gave me this prompt for my microfic game ages ago and I found it in my drafts--I think I was intending to make it longer but when I came back to it, I really liked how this felt like a complete tiny story all by itself ! (I was so tempted to try to snowbaz this but mammoths deserve better and I love revisiting the Mars House.)
āWhat,ā says an icy voice, āis a mammoth doing in the Senate, exactly?ā
River turns and sparkles at the voice in a way that January knows means trouble. āAre you referring to my intern?ā
The senator who objected sputters. āDonāt be ridiculous, an animal canāt be an intern.ā
āWeāre all animals,ā January interjects, which earns him (and his cage) a cold glare.
āThis is Gregory,ā River says, bowing in Gregoryās direction.
The senator--someone from an old family, and one of the loudest voices in support of forced naturalization--manages to look down their nose at Gregory while also looking up. After a long pause during which they're clearly weighing whether it's worth the risk to anger the Consul, they say patronizingly, "I suppose your family is very proud of you being here?"
"Actually my grandmother thinks this is beneath me and going to be a terrible influence," Gregory says happily.
Iāve been working on my CORB, and if youāre thinking to yourself, I didnāt think CORB was happening right nowā¦you would be right! Iām so, so late, but thatās pretty standard for me irl so Iām not going to let that stop me.
I'm a little more than halfway through a rough first draft and my plan is to have it entirely written before I start posting. I'm really trying to push through the rough draft, so there is a lot of placeholder dialogue and "[MAKE BETTER JOKE HERE]" and "[SPELL]" happening. Guys, the first draft doesn't have to be good, it's just gotta get writ. It doesn't always flow the way I'd like, but it's moving along, and that's enough for me for a first draft. It's going to be so, so romcom. Pray I can pull this off!

āWhyās your mouth so puffy and red?ā Sophie says when I come in from my "baking" class. (Earlier than usual, because Simon and I both have to get up for the market in the morning.) (I don't tell them that part. No one knows about Simon yet.)
āOh no! Surely you told them about your kiwi allergy, Basil?ā Daphne says, panicked.
āItās not kiwi,ā I groan. āIām fine, mum.ā
āThen what is it?ā Mordelia smirks.
āI have an incurable case of mind your own business. I hope itās contagious.ā Sophie and Petra giggle but Daphne still looks worried.
feel free to share something you're working on, writing or otherwise! I'd love to hear about it.
In honor of my pole teacher playing the song Baz and Simon first dance to together in The Tower Room during freestyle in class today, here are my fancasts for stripper!Baz and stripper!Simon from the fic:
Baz fancast - I wish he had a post of the performance that I saw because the song he chose was soooo Baz. I think you can still see the Baz vibes in this video though
Simon fancast - this guy is a brunette but he has the most golden boy energy. When I saw him perform he was wearing sweatpants and dancing about four feet away from me and it was the sexiest sweatpants have ever looked. He ended up stripping out of them and it was actually a disappointment. He also had insane charisma and seductive energy, just like Simon in the fic.

Alex finishes his drink and slides off the stool. āIām gonna be so normal about it and not reply within thirty seconds.ā
āRooting for you,ā Henry snarks. Alex flips him off as he leaves the bar.
Or: Henry is coming out of a rough breakup. He spent two years dating a man whom his dog, David, hated. Now that heās single, Alex is unabashedly flirting with himāand Henry must make a decision when David meets Alex and loves him.
The David-centric fic has dropped! Featuring a candid portrayal of mental health, a bit of spice, and Alex being down atrocious.
