As for “toxic”, the reason people believe baseball is toxic is because of the whole “emo arc” thing where he was avoiding suitcase and occasionally antagonizing her. The reason I assume for his behavior is because he felt betrayed by her since she did call out his yes-man attitude towards nickel. However in the middle of episode 13 of season 2, he expresses genuine guilt over what he did in the past only wishing that he could make things right with suitcase. After a little pep talk from test tube baseball stops showing hostility towards suitcase even telling her not to let him hold her back.

He genuinely cares about suitcase but there’s one thing keeping them apart and that’s nickel. Baseball constantly makes excuses for him even though he knows for a fact that he’s in the wrong and it took him a while to realize that he shouldn’t blame suitcase for the falling out of the alliance.

Long story short, they a bit tragic but their love is magic.
