I need perisex people to understand that the 'corrective' surgeries done on intersex children are nothing like bottom surgeries for trans people. Not just because of the lack of consent, but also because it is literally not the same surgery.
Bottom surgeries for trans people are done with the intent to maintain function and sensation in line with what the individual wants, they are functional just as much as they are cosmetic.
IGM on the other hand is purely cosmetic. It is done for the comfort of the parents due to the violent biases against intersex people sterily written into medical protocols. Visibly intersex genitalia is seen as already being faulty and disgusting; therefore anything done to change it would be an improvement, regardless of the side effects.
I need you to understand how they speak about what they do to us.
I'm 20 years old and I'm new to official queer activism. I'm young. I'm uneducated about the medical field, something which deeply fascinates me. I have a deep respect for doctors and what they do. But I know this is wrong. I know this is wrong. I know this is wrong. I wish the world would listen.
"...leads to great distress in the family" Pause. Why do the family matter?
"It is not a medical problem" Pause. Then why is it an issue?
Because perisex people's feelings matter more than intersex people's rights to keep our organs inside our bodies and our flesh intact.
I can understand why, so I'd like to explain.
In cases of ambiguous genitalia, these surgeries are required to issue a legally recognized birth certificate. Everyone must be sorted into M or F.
The thought of just.. not assigning a sex to a child & thus violating the sex binary, is more horrific to perisex cis people than the thought of literally mutilating that child.
This is what the core of medical intersexism is. An unwillingness to question the social construct of binary sex categorization.
This is also what it's like doing research into intersex issues, as an intersex person. We see constant shit like this, and constant photos and accounts of child abuse, molestation, and rape. This is why I cannot fucking cope with doing this research much anymore. It's exhausting. It's hurtful knowing my own clit was trimmed down for no other reason than to be less horrifying to my mother, who never developed a bond with me and told me I was born wrong and abused me for 20 years until I bounced. This is why I break down when any of my posts blow up and people start demanding more info or asking questions that imply shit I never said. It's exhausting doing this and living like this.
i swear to god if one more stupid fandom ruins a beautiful text post i am calling the police
I am obligated to reblog this again, because it is now Superwholock, and therefore perfection.
people need to remember that every tumblr post in 2012 was like this
“Nobody has that many things wrong with them.”
Actually, lots of people do. I just happen to have an audience and refuse to shut up about it because medical neglect meant I almost died in silence, so I am adamant to survive as loudly and as annoyingly as possible to make sure no one else goes what I go through and hopefully know they’re not alone.
Also it’s called comorbidities and the knock on effect of being told I was “just anxious” for thirty odd years while my body was allowed to crumble. Had I been correctly diagnosed a lot sooner and given adequate medical care, a lot of the things wrong with me might never have happened.
As it is, I was slapped with an anxiety label for the longest time and allowed to deteriorate until it almost killed me. I am now living with the consequences of that.
And if you truly can’t relate or think it impossible: Be thankful your medical experiences to date have sheltered you from that.
having one illness makes you more likely to have several, not less.
think about it for a minute. if something goes wrong in one area of a complex interdependent system, isn't it obvious that that makes it more likely for something else to go wrong too?
if something is wrong with your immune system, for example, there's no part of the body that it can't affect. lungs liver heart eyes connective tissue. anything. so why would you be surprised that someone's immune system attacked their kidneys and now they have kidney disease as well? especially if the original issue was never treated.
all the body's systems are connected and depend on each other. one issue can easily spiral into many.
so this is just, by the way, like incredibly insanely transphobic
“your absence from the historical record—” is due to the patriarchy violently punishing people who were expected to be women who rejected that label by beating them, sending them to conversion therapy, and confining them to asylums, that’s how your sentence was going to end, right? you weren’t going to make light of the devastating aids epidemic that killed trans men, like trans activist lou sullivan, or completely treatable conditions, like robert eads, simply because cis doctors refused to treat them, decades before their time, right? you weren’t going to mock the demographic that literally was not legally allowed to vote or own property or have our own bank accounts and in large part had our livelihoods tied to the whims of our fathers or husbands for centuries? right?

trevor kirczenow, a transgender health researcher and diabetes healthcare advocate who is an author and community organizer in the field of lgbtq lactation and infant feeding.
anyway my hands are cramping from all this typing bc there's so goddamn many important trans guys and transmasculine people out there who have made significant cultural and political contributions so i'll leave this list there for now!
This feels like an appropriate time to say USAmericans better fucking not wish natural disasters on states that go red this November,. You are not progressive for wishing death and pain upon disproportionately Southern, disproportionately impoverished, disproportionately vote-suppressed, and disproportionately Black states. If Georgia flips back to red or NC doesn't flip blue, I don't want to hear a single fucking hurricane joke. This happens every election year, and every election year it's just as shitty and callous.
accidentally exploded a bottle of carolina reaper powder in my farmer's market bag and I'm still finding contaminated areas when parts of me just start hurting for no reason
I think I'd better shower before I try to do anything with my contacts tonight
oh noOooo
I shouldn’t have to say this, but— do not sign anything which has important points added in goddamn pencil.
Don’t sign forms with areas left blank. Make sure those areas have “not applicable” written in each one (or words which work where you are).
Be aware of ambush tactics like being asked to sign unrelated forms * after * a surgery, any painful therapy, while feverish — any time when you’re unable to read and think clearly.
Don’t believe “this form is no big deal, you don’t have to read it.”
If you’re pressured “because it’s more efficient to sign everything at once” or anything like that, remember this is one more reason to be cautious, if not suspicious. Tell them to make a separate appointment.
If you are in pain, alone, or concerned for yourself and your ability to refuse to sign papers under pressure, ask someone to be there with you.
If you don’t have people to help in person, get someone to witness things with your phone, and allow them to say “wait a minute, that’s not right” or “no” for you. You don’t even need a smart phone to do this, OK? I’ve had to use a land line on speaker. It helps if your person has a clue what’s going on, but if you’re ambushed, just make sure they are willing to stick up for you. There are probably notes on how to be an advocate somewhere, if you know resources please add them in comments or add to this post.
What in the world? They're carpeted and everything.
Very old house. Depending on how old it is, it might not have originally had indoor plumbing. Depending on how fancy it is, these might have been a back staircase for servants. They might have also just been attic access, which seems the most likely, given what we can see. Then, when someone wanted an indoor bathroom or even just an extra bathroom, the only place to put them was where the old stairs already existed. Instead of rerouting access to the next floor or the attic, they just did... this. Which is certainly a choice. Would have been cooler if they put a cabinet there with a false back, creating a hidden passage, which would have been so fun to explore as a child.
Happy Trash Eve Eve, everybody
so im reading through wings of fire for the first time and

Missouri shares it's two major cities with neighboring states because Missouri loves company.
This is the kind of cheeky pun I live for
Who would win? The thousand pound flying meathook t-rex, or… monkey with a stick?
i don't care how neat a program is or how much it might improve my life. if it sneaks its way into my computer on top of a regular software update like some kind of fucking digital deer tick, it's a delete on sight. kill kill kill. nobody but ME decides what programs get installed on MY computer. fuck all the way off
Also... if I uninstall a software I want it to be gone from my computer for good. I had to fucking reinstall one drive today, just so I could disable it auto saving my files, and then uninstall it again. Hopefully it will stop corrupting my stats files now 😤
THESIS: the real reason that people stay on this hellsite is not “chronological order” or “the drama” or whatever (per se), but is instead linked to how tumblr, unlike most social media, is not optimised to give content as short of a half-life as possible, but instead is optimised to let content continue to cycle for months, years, even decades. this has in turn led to a more consistent centralised site “culture” in which there is more coherent linkage among different areas of the site, thus also explaining why its content permeates so thoroughly throughout the internet.
