at some point in your life you will be boiling fruit, water, sugar, and lemon juice in a pot to make a syrup or jam. the instructions will tell you to simmer for a certain amt of time. your timer will go off and you will look at the pot and go, "hm, this doesn't look thick enough. maybe i'll let it go for another 10 minutes." this is the devil speaking. it's only so liquid right now because it is at boiling point. it will thicken when it cools down. learn from the follies of my youth and do not let this happen to you
at some point in your life you will be making a sauce or a stew in which you need to add cornstarch to thicken it. and you will prepare a slurry of starch in cold water and think "this looks like way too little starch to thicken this amount of liquid." this is the devil speaking. cornstarch instantly polymerizes at 95°C and if you add too much it will turn into an impossibly thick goop.
at some point in your life you will be making some sort of cream based dessert that requires gelatin to thicken it. and you will soak some gelatin sheets in water and think "this is too few gelatin sheets for this amount of cream." this is the devil speaking. it will thicken in the fridge and if you add too much you will end up with milk jelly
at some point in your life you will be baking cookies. you will take the sheet out after twelve minutes as the recipe instructs and the cookies will still be glistening and soft. "these don't seem cooked enough," you will think to yourself, "i should place them back into the oven until their edges are nice and golden." this is the devil talking. this is how you get dry, overdone cookies. the cookies will continue to bake on the warm sheet for several more minutes and then harden up after sitting on a rack for a while. trust the process. trust the process.
at some point in your life you will be adding a small pasta to a soup and you will think "that is not enough small pasta." this is the devil talking. the pasta will absorb the stock and expand. this is how you end up with a soup that is a solid mass of soggy ditalini.
At some point in your life you will be adding garlic to a dish and you will think "that is not enough garlic." These are angels speaking. They are correct. Add more garlic.
You don't have to laugh at "girl math" or "girl dinner" or "I'm just a girl" jokes. You don't have to laugh at misogynistic humor that demeans women. You don't have to go along with it. You don't even have to sit there awkwardly pretending you didn't hear anything. You are allowed to speak up and say something.
You don't have to be a jerk about it. The most effective yet civil way of dealing with harmful "humor" is just pretending you don't get the joke and asking them to explain. "I don't get it, what's girl math? What's a girl dinner? What do you mean by you're just a girl? Can you explain the joke to me?"
And if you're feeling bold, you can just say (or follow up with) "I think that's misogynistic". That's allowed. You don't have to quietly endure misogynistic "jokes", you can call a spade a spade.

ive been trying for a while to find the right words to articulate the way goys, and especially the current-left goys, treat and talk the holocaust, how they see being a victim of this massive tragedy that destroyed over half a people as a mark of specialness, or privilege, how it grants you martyrdom for the cause of social justice- except when it's jews, of course, because then they're using their victimhood to manipulate people and are acting like it's only about them. and the way they fight over this whole idea of 'who suffered the most during the holocaust [except the jews]', as if the question of who is the biggest victim is a question of who takes the trophy for 'group to be most oppressed'. but anyway i just had the thought that goys seem to treat the holocaust as if it's the golden apple thrown by marx with the inscription 'to the most oppressed' going on. that's the best way i can describe it.
martyrdom is a great way to put it

I’m super excited for the new Avatar series. The animation kind of reminds me of Voltron, but I’m really here to give my two cents on all the Korra slander.
I love Korra. I think she’s an incredible, complex character who’s vastly different from Aang and she should be. It’s pretty obvious if you’ve ever watched a TV show that Korra didn’t just wake up one day, decide to become evil, and destroy the world. The far more likely explanation is that something happened as a result of the spirit portals being left open, and the world ending up the way it is was the best possible outcome. The alternative would have been much worse.
I’ve also seen people openly saying they feel bad for Pavi because she has to fix all of Korra’s problems. The only thing I have to say to that is: clearly you don’t know anything about the show, because that’s exactly what every Avatar has to do with their predecessor.
Yangchen mostly sided with humans when they were in conflict with spirits, so Kuruk spent his entire life fighting off angry spirits. That meant he never had time to deal with human conflicts, forcing Kyoshi to handle them. (Kyoshi did nothing wrong and was perfect in every way, by the way.)
Then Roku didn’t stop Sozin when he had the chance, which led to the Hundred Year War and the genocide of the Air Nomads. Aang couldn’t resolve the growing bender vs. non-bender conflicts, so Korra had to deal with them.
The point I’m trying to make is that Avatars can’t see the future. They’re working with the information they have at the time and doing the best they can with the situation in front of them. They’ve all made mistakes aside from Kyoshi, because she’s the best. Whatever Korra did, she did because she thought it was the right thing in that moment.
I honestly believe this is the perfect ending for her character. Throughout her entire series she was so focused on being seen as a good Avatar like Aang, and so afraid of being viewed as a lesser one. Her dying to save the world, knowing it would permanently damage how people perceive her, is the perfect conclusion. She’s great.
If Korra has no fans I am dead and cremated.
new avatar series means all korra defenders have to unite once again for our girl
Apayauq Reitan, Iñupiaq musher and the first out trans woman to compete in the Iditarod
I think some of y'all would really benefit from learning the scope of power of various political offices.
Are you trying to tell me my local schoolboard doesn't have the ability to declare a unilateral ceasefire with iran?
If they try hard enough and are pure of heart... still no.
korra, you will always be loved 💙
I saw the trailer for the new avatar series and had to get these out of my system

Random thought drinking my tea because it's the AM:
A lot of you don't actually care about change or making changes. Or even supporting marginalized people.
You just care about being *right*.
And you don't realize that that's the real reason you're doing stuff.
It's not because you actually care.
'cause if you Care, you would spend a few minutes every day interrogating yourself on whether or not your biases or understanding of a situation *is* factual or if you're just not going to deal with that.
It don't even got be a lot, but some of you just are unwilling to allow the idea of Gray scale, gradients and the concept of Two Things Being Correct exists.
And that the box is a prison.
And while there are absolutes, those Absolutes shouldn't overcome humanity.
Which some of ya'll lack 'cause you like punishing people more.
you like the violence more.
you crave the violence and willingness to hurt others more than you do peace or actual solutions to a problem.
you hear a word and you're triggered to enact Violence upon people.
'cause you don't actually want peace.
you just wanna hurt.
and that's pretty miserable/sad.
I'm so sick of every post about education having so many people going "actually school is bad because it forces children to conform to capitalistic standards and (whatever buzzwords that sound leftist and progressive and yet fall in line with the active right wing efforts to push minority students out of education)".
Sorry that you had to drop out of high school. You're like 32 now. You can stop going to every post about education and talking about how evil school is now. I
It's just so crazy to be perpetuating the idea that education is incompatible with disabled children at the same time that republicans are trying to repeal the policies that mandate that schools accommodate and teach disabled children. Like?? Are you stupid???
I think the skeleton key to understanding most tumblr discourse on education is that, when you push past all the buzzwords, they’re not arguing for increased accessibility, but instead buying into plain old reactionary anti-intellectualism. They act like even valuing education is elitist and classist and ableist and every other -ist that you can think of, and it becomes abundantly clear from interacting with these people that they’re compensating for their own lack of curiosity about the world, failures, and unwillingness to learn anything or read a book (which is why they do often claim “no one taught me this in school!” about a basic fact and get offended at people who tell them to use the phone they’re using to look it up). They use disabled students as a shield against their own inadequacy and act like expecting students to do anything they don’t want to do is oppressive because they’re still mad they had to write a book report in middle school instead of sit and watch movies in class with their friends all day, but kids don’t have the knowledge or life experience to know that of course it’s important to learn reading, writing, critical thinking skills, basic math, etc. or else you’re really going to be at a serious disadvantage in life as an adult. But these people are still mad at their teachers, so they say all of this education is frivolous and a waste of time and smhhhh we shouldn’t be teaching students how to do math, that’s icky and difficult and it’s oppressive to challenge students in any way, we should be locking these students out of a college education (which is evil and elitist anyway) by not even trying to make math more accessible to them and instead bring back home economics and teach students of color or disabled students how to clean and cook—because leaving the hard academic subjects for the middle class white kids doesn’t sound Republican at all, right? 🤪
