Unacted desires are fundamentally neutral, and you can't decide what to do about the things you want unless you can admit to yourself what they are in the first place. I'd find that bar graph that shows the amount of Jewish Holocaust victims and next to it a barely visible, one pixel high bar of people imprisoned by the nazis for homosexuality.
If it's someone who seems willing to listen I'll explain how the nazi homophobia circles back to antisemitism. If not, maybe some derogatory comments about them and their close family.
Is it the "good" choice? No. But it gets me through the day a bit easier.

there's a lot of great points in the notes about how the Nazis' homophobia was rooted in antisemitism. Another thing for me is the fact that, had the Nazis been successful, there would be no Jewish life today. Queer people will always continue to be born, but for Jews, the only way to become a Jew requires other Jews - either being born to Jewish parents or being affirmed as a Jew by a rabbinical court of three other Jews. Had all presently living Jews been wiped out, all future generations of Jews would have been wiped out as well. The Nazis certainly would've liked to wipe out all queer existence, but that isn't possible. The complete eradication of all Jewish existence was at stake in a way it simply wasn't for queer people.
I'm Jewish because the Jews who came before me survived. I don't have the same feeling as a queer person - I mourn the history that was destroyed, the research, the communities that existed then, absolutely. But I know that I'd still be queer either way, and I can't say the same thing for being Jewish.
I'd like to reiterate what @jewishmuppet said. I'm a trans and bisexual Jew. I've been out since I was four. My parents were accepting and they made sure I was exposed to queer and Jewish histories. I've spent years studying the Holocaust and studying gay culture in the US. I know what I'm talking about.
There isn't a single gay culture, not really. People talk about it, but they mean gay culture in their country, and usually gay, lesbian, and transgender people have different groupings within that. A Chinese gay man is going to have a different experience than a lesbian in the US. People in countries where people are arrested or potentially killed for being queer are not having the same experiences as people in countries where being gay is more acceptable. That's just how it is. And for most people, myself included, this is a culture you discover when you're older. You're not a child going to ballrooms and drag shows; you start doing that as a teen or an adult (if you choose to. No shame if you don't interact with the wider queer community at all). This is not your experience from infancy onwards.
I grew up Jewish. I grew up attending Seders and lighting yartzheit candles. Our house always had a mezuzah. This was my culture since birth, and it's my mom's culture, and my grandparents' culture. And when I talk to Jews in other countries, we have similar experiences. Yes, we have different minhagim, but we're celebrating the same holidays. I say the same prayers as a Jew living in Israel or Argentina or Russia. If you know Hebrew, you can speak to Jews all over the planet because they know it too. We have a unified culture, even if it's been tweaked a little here and there.
That culture was nearly destroyed. My great-grandparents' village is fucking gone. They escaped prior to the Holocaust, but there's nowhere to go back to. I can't find any info on it because their records and letters are in Yiddish, which their children never learned. (My grandfather and great uncles threw out a lot of stuff from the Old Country.) I don't speak a lick of Yiddish, so even with the letters, I couldn't find my way back to where my great-grandparents lived. There are stories of Jews returning to their homes to find everything Jewish destroyed. I remember one story of a Polish man returning to his town to find that the synagogue had been used to house cattle during the Shoah and was unusable (because of all the feces), and the grave markers in the cemetery had been removed and used to pave roads. (You can still find roads with fragments of Hebrew on them throughout Europe for this reason.) Everything was gone.
There's a difference between a community you enter as a teenager or adult and the community you're born into. Right now, my gaming community could implode and I'd be upset, but I wouldn't be devastated the way I'd feel if the US stopped existing. Hell, I was involved in leftist circles that ate themselves alive (iykyk) and that sucked, but I recovered. I don't think I could if my entire childhood was eradicated. If I couldn't go back home or find people who spoke my language, if the cemetery that housed my grandparents was desecrated, if all the important cultural buildings were filled with animal droppings.
You know how when you visit your hometown after you move away, and the ice cream place you really loved went under and it became a gas station? I think we all have an experience similar to that. It hurts, but imagine that on the scale of thousands. It's not just the ice cream place where you celebrated birthdays; it's your school, your library, your soccer fields, your favorite restaurants, your movie theaters, your malls, your parks, your clubs, your house, your neighbor's house, your best friend's house, all gone.
Look, gay culture in Germany was eradicated, too. We know this happened. But those men got to go back to their cities that were still standing. The same people were there. Of course, not allâI won't pretend that Germany didn't lose people in the war and buildings weren't destroyed. But people still spoke GERMAN. Yes, they were occupied, but their culture was intact. It wasn't suddenly impossible to get German food or hear German songs or read German books. That was true of every country hit by the war. Yes, it was tragic, but their culture remained. They got to remain German.
Jews suddenly had nothing. Our culture was gone. Our little pockets of Yiddish were gone. That culture was ripped from us and from the places we lived. We carried it to different countries, mostly the US and Israel, but it was an effort. There was a concentrated effort in trying to keep Jewish culture going. We built ulpans and yeshivahs to keep our culture going. We worked at ensuring our children knew our heritage and history.
Gay people just... didn't have to do that. Not because they didn't have kids, but because their larger culture was still intact and gay culture was usually transmitted through other ways, outside the families. (Cause let's be honest, if you were a homosexual who had kids in the 1940s, you were closeted and likely didn't tell your kids.)
Yeah, the numbers show how few homosexuals were in the camps, but that's not the important part. The important part is what Jews lost that homosexuals still had. That's why it's so important for queer people nowadays not to compare themselves to those murdered in the Holocaust. They don't have the same culture and their entire way of life wasn't destroyed.
And while I'm on an infodump, this happened to the Roma as well. I'm not Romani and I'm not well educated on how they handled life after the Holocaust, but their culture was also nearly eradicated. (And in some places, 100% of Roma was killed, so they lost whole towns and communities as well.) They suffered in the way that Jews suffered, which was markedly different from homosexuals, communists, "asocials", and everyone else killed in the camps. The only people I'm okay with comparing themselves to Jewish people are Romani people, because that suffering was so similar. And again, the numbers don't matter. There were fewer Roma at the start of the Holocaust, so fewer of them died, but the harm to their community was similar.
Gayness and queerness was also blamed on Jews. Gayness was a byproduct, side effect or symptom of Jews and Jewishness to the Nazis. Jews were seen as effeminate to Nazis. Stands to follow, a subset of that thinking is us (Jews) creating gays. They were containing the spread, so to speak. (This is how itâs always been explained in the books Iâve read, exhibits Iâve seen and docs Iâve watched. But happy if folks have other interesting sources.)
Gays rebuilt communities. Jews continued to be murdered when they went home. Between blood libel and their neighbors wanting to keep what they stole from Jews, drove Jews out of Poland after the war.
I am also not Roma, nor an expert. However, I want to share something from the Auschwitz. Not Long Ago. Not Far Away. I took a photograph because I was so overwhelmed but wanted to remember this, because itâs important.
âAfter World War II Roma were also excluded from the right to restitution, because Federal German authorities denied that Roma were persecued due to racist reasons. After a small step in this direction in 1963, restitutions became possible in small amounts only in 1979, when the West German Federal Parliament declared that the Nazi persecution of Roma was based on racial grounds and Roma survivors were allowed to claim for restitution in a form of a onetime payment. The official acceptance of the Porajmos as genocide by the Federal Republic of Germany followed only in 1982 with a speech by Chancelor Helmut Schmidt. In August 2016, an agreement between the German Ministry for Finance and the Foreign Ministry of the Czech Republic decided on compensation for survivors of the Porajmos in the Czech Republic. This agreement, which will give 2,500 EUR to each of the handful of survivors, was greeted as a symbolic acknowledgment, but also criticised for its delay and the low amount awarded. However, this agreement has already led to renewed claims from Romani victims from the former Yugoslavia and other regions of 'romocide'.â - Roma and Conflict

and out of that came a protest movement. a gen z group called the cockroach janta party, started by a 30 year old named abhijeet dipke, got 22 million instagram followers within DAYS. they've been doing a sit-in at jantar mantar in delhi demanding education minister dharmendra pradhan resign.
and then there's sonam wangchuk. if you've watched 3 idiots, he's the real engineer the character was based on. built solar schools in ladakh. invented ice stupas so himalayan villages have water. spent his whole life on education. he's 59 and he's been on hunger strike for 17+ days now. reporters went to see him this week and he was too weak to talk. and the troll armies are calling him "anti national" and "foreign funded". a man starving himself for other people's children. that's the thing here, anyone who asks a question is suddenly a traitor.
it's not one incident, it's everywhere you look:
⢠infrastructure worth thousands of crores failing within months of the ribbon cutting. tunnels collapsing in regions where heavy rain is a guarantee, not a surprise.
⢠youth unemployment near 10% for ages 15 to 29, 13.6% in cities. in a country of 1.42 billion where more than half the population is young.
⢠only about the top 3% of indians earn above 10 lakh a year. meanwhile billionaire wealth keeps ballooning and the headlines celebrate it.
⢠manipur burned for over two years. an ethnic conflict, tens of thousands displaced, and the prime minister barely said the word manipur while it happened.
⢠journalists raided. critics' houses bulldozed. activists sitting in jail for years without trial under laws like UAPA. our press freedom ranking has cratered.
⢠even the petrol is a fight now, ethanol blending pushed through while drivers complain about their engines and get no straight answers.
and through all of it, the PM, who came to power on religious polarisation (americans, sound familiar?), travels abroad for photo ops and has not held one single open press conference in over a decade. not one.

if you're not indian: share this. our media mostly won't cover any of it because the big outlets are owned by the same billionaires the government serves. the only reason wangchuk's fast is getting any coverage is people refusing to look away.

The issue isn't not wanting to condemn Israel or the israeli government. The issue is that jews and jewish organizations have to do it to exist in public, whilst others don't. And even then that's not enough as an israeli jewish DJ who is antizionist and done activism was still boycotted because he is an Israeli jew.
Like imagine if all Americans residing or visiting outside of the U.S suddenly had to condemn Trump before being allowed to attend Pride, to host a panel or lecture in their field of expertise, to check in to a hotel room, to just exist in public or online. And even if you condemn Trump, people still refuse to exist near you because of where you were born.
Its just an exhaustion of always being immediately assumed to be a bad person before I get to even share my actual opinions and beliefs.
Whilst the NZ government is nowhere near as bad as the Israeli Government, I, a jew who has never stepped foot in Israel, am always expected to condemn the Israeli government but never at any point has anyone asked me to condemn the NZ government, not online and not irl.
People see me as an extension of a government of a country is have never stepped foot it, before they see me as an extension of a government of a country i was born, raised and still live in.
It's also not something leftists do to any other diasporic people. It's horrific, but there is absolutely nothing unique about Netanyahu's behavior. Not a single thing. Authoritarian leadership, war crimes, bombing of civilians, denial of humanitarian aid, forced displacement, persecution of Muslimsâyou name it, it's happening somewhere else. Leslie Feinberg, Judith Butler, Kate Bornstein, and Riki Wilchins are all Jewish nonbinary people who have paved the way for trans and intersex rights and transfeminist action in the United States over the last several decades and you should know their names and what they've done.
There is a reason why there is a more modern antisemitic caricature of "the college educated coastal elite trying to erode at western masculinity and femininity" and it's literally, in part, because of Jewish led transfeminist action. It is a caricature that exists in dialogue with longer standing antisemitic stereotypes, but we're talking specifically about the modern iteration of it.
It's because of Leslie Feinberg's action, mobilization, and writing in the late 70's through the early 00's as a vocally Jewish transgender feminist. It's because of Judith Butler's essay "Performative Acts and Gender Constitution" and their book Gender Trouble in the 90's. It's because of Bornstein's books Gender Outlaws and Gender Outlaws: The Next Generation, the second of which was worked on in collaboration with Jewish trans man S. Bear Bergman. It's because Riki Wilchins has been an active part of trans and intersex feminist action for decades despite you probably not knowing hir name.
Wilchins co-founded Camp Trans with Feinberg. S/he co-founded Transsexual Menace with Denise Norris. Wilchins coined the term "genderqueer" and s/he also helped lead to the foundation of Intersex Awareness Day thanks to hir work with intersex activist Cheryl Chase and the Hermaphrodites With Attitude! protest group. Wilchins has been a backbone of trans and intersex activism since the 90's.
All Jewish nonbinary people from different assigned gender backgrounds working towards trans liberation and solidarity. For decades.
If you ever question why my own politics are aimed so pointedly towards liberation and solidarity, particularly across the lines of sex and gender, it's because it is a legacy that I'm very proud to follow in the footsteps of as a nonbinary Jewish person.

Shes a Jewish genderqueer trans woman* that has contributed a lot to the conversations surrounding: the gentrification of San Franciscos gay neighborhoods, sex work, hiv activism, disability, abuse, and incest.
If youve read the anthology, Thats Revolting! Queer strategies for fighting assimilation! Or, why are faggots afraid of faggots? Or The end of San Francisco then youre already familiar with her work.
Her work is particularly important, because sheâs talked a lot about doing survival full service sex work during the 90s, and there just isnt a whole lot of people who have documented those experiences publicly for obvious reasons.
This also ties in to what op is talking about-a lot of the anti sex work conspiracy theories that go around are about Jews forcing goy in to a life of âdepravityâ and âpulling them away from god in to a life of sinâ etc
So, when you, as a jewish genderqueer queen faggot* talk openly and publicly about doing sex work people are quick to go straight to all of that.
But anyways, yeah, shes part of this legacy too.

Karl Meir (Max) Baer was an Jewish intersex trans man who was the first person to undergo sex reassignment surgery in 1904 and one of the first trans people to gain full legal recognition of their transition in 1907 when his birth certificate was reissued under his chosen name with the marker of male in January of that year. Both before and after transitioning, Baer was a tireless advocate for women and Jews and was particularly interested in combatting the sex and labour trafficking of underprivileged girls and women, particularly Jewish girls and women.
[He worked closely with Magnus Hirschfeld, another Jewish (though not trans) gay sexologist who founded the Institut fĂźr Sexualwissenschaft (Institut for Sexual Science) where he conducted and published groundbreaking research into human sexuality and gender. Through his institute, trans people were able to access surgical, social, and legal transition. Although Magnus Hirschfeld was not trans himself, we legitimately would not be where we are today with trans surgery and scholarship without him, and we probably would have gotten a lot further if the Nazis hadn't ransacked and burned his work to the ground, and they did this first and foremost because he was Jewish. If we're listing Jewish trailblazers in the realm of trans scholarship and liberation, Hirschfeld more than deserves to be on the list.]
Karl Baer published a semi-autobiographical book titled Aus eines Mannes Mädchenjahren (Memoirs of a Man's Maiden Years) in 1907 under the pseudonym N.O. Body where he changed all the details to be about a gentile man rather than a Jewish man (because of antisemitism), and he wrote not just about his own experiences as an intersex trans man, but also used it to call for the abolishing of strict gender norms and inequality which leave girls and women (and people raised as girls and women) overwhelmingly disadvantaged in society. The book was immensely popular and was one of the first popular published accounts of a trans person's life. In 1920, he became director of the Berlin chapter of B'nai B'rith. He managed to escape Nazi Germany in 1938 and was able to emigrate to British Mandate Palestine and lived there with his legal wife and partner until his death in 1956. He is buried in Kiryat Shaul Cemetary in Tel Aviv. Karl M. Baer should also be on this list.
