Ok this one is a bit angsty for me but It is a hug to everyone who sees and tries to understand and protect their mental health.

Ian glanced out the window, watching the sky darken as thunder gathered on the horizon. “Mania builds the same way,” he said, very carefully.

Mickey walked toward Ian, sensing the shift. “It starts as a rumble you think you can ignore, then it grows, pressure stacking until your world explodes.

Lightning split the sky, and Ian shrank, not from fear, but recognition. “People think it’s energy,” he mused . “But it’s pressure. It’s drowning upward.” A large boom followed, loud and merciless. Ian exhaled. “Hard to outrun.”

Mickey held him . Ian sagged. “Storms pass,” he murmured, “but not cleanly.”

But, on his coming-of-age solo hunt, a ritual for every Milkovich man on his sixteenth birthday, Mickey meets a wolf who seems far more human than even most of the people Mickey knows. He just doesn't know what to think anymore, or where his loyalties lie.

Fic writer asks

🟥How long do you spend in edits?

Not terribly long, really. I usually write the chapter (or section or fic if it’s a one shot), read through and edit it afterwards, and then read it one more time before posting. I also use a text to speech reader to listen to the chapter right before I post to catch any typos I might’ve missed. I don’t use a beta (although I have my cheerleader @awaywithherhead), and up until I first worked in a group on a fic, no one read anything I wrote until it was posted! But that was an amazing learning experience and made me a much better writer.

🤷‍♀️What's a fic you didn't expect to be popular, but really took off?

Hmmm. Honestly, probably my first one. I wouldn’t say it necessarily “took off,” but I really didn’t think anyone would even read it 😂. Beyond that one, it would probably be Circle Theory. At that time, because it was only my third fic and I wasn’t really “known” in the fandom yet, I was surprised (in the best way) by how much engagement it got. I’m still surprised and so happy that people even want to read my stuff at all! ❤️❤️

😱 What's your greatest fear as a fanfic writer?

Ooh, this is a tough one. Probably that I’ll run out of ideas, or even worse, motivation. That I’ll get burned out and not want to do it anymore. But I can’t see that happening any time soon!

Hmmm, probably the one in the first chapter of Something to Talk About, where the true nature of Ian and Mickey’s relationship is revealed!

💻 What do you write your stories on? Laptop, phone, paper, etc.

If I’m writing at work (😳) it’s typically my laptop, but for the most part, I write on my phone. I sometimes also use my iPad with an attached keyboard, but since my phone is always with me, I’m often writing in bits and pieces whenever I have a chance.

Well this is hard! I don’t know that I would be able to narrow down one specific line or paragraph that I’m most proud of, but I definitely enjoyed writing this one from The Odds of Us (in which Mickey is a bartender and musician):

And then, Mickey leans into the microphone and speaks. “Thanks, everyone. So this next song… well, let’s just say that I work at a bar in Boystown, I’m wearin’ a see-through shirt, and I take nine inches up the ass on the regular”—Ian almost chokes on his drink at that—“but singing this song is definitely the gayest thing I’ve ever done. You’ve all been warned. But, fuck it. I’m feelin’ pretty fuckin’ gay tonight.”

Galladrabbles: Reflection

Sneaking in under the wire again. Shhh.

Thank you @atthedugouts and @galladrabbles! This one reminded me of this drabble I wrote in March and which I've been sort of intending to revisit but I forgot about it and apparently never even properly added it to my ideas list. But anyway, here is a little continuation, with a promise that I'll add it back to the list even if I'm not intending to do another drabble series.

He looks down into the water, frowning at the reflection that stares back at him. Red hair, wild and unkempt. Green eyes. Unfamiliar.

The blue-eyed stranger comes closer out of the bushes at the edge of the clearing, looks at him. 

"How long have you been here?" the stranger asks, his bottom lip quivering.

He shakes his head. 

"I... I don't know. Hours maybe? I don't remember why I was running."

"Ian. You've been missing for four days."

"I'm not Ian," he replies, jaw setting stubbornly, though he's anything but sure.

The stranger nods, eyes glassy.

"Who are you then?"

May Fanfic Roundup

2026 edition

It's been such a weird month for fic reading for me. I read loads, in terms of both words and fics, but I had a kind of mental block about bookmarking stuff.

Then I decided to reread Cooperative Gameplay, which is always a good plan! And I've been interspersing each chapter with a couple of short fics (less than 10k), which has been a nice way to clear some open tabs and keep my reading more varied.

I still have a couple of big bang fics to read, but my brain rebelled so I took a break to read something else for a bit until I'm ready to come back to those.

So! Overall I've read about 625k words from 41 fics, including a decent mix of longer and shorter and WIPs (and that's not even including all the Tumblr fics and WIP snippets I've been reading 😆).

Prison boyfriends, beloveds. Ian accidentally called Mickey "baby" in public. This was delightful.

Monica leaves Ian a house in Oklahoma, and he goes down to sort it out to sell, only to meet a hot blue-eyed blacksmith. I loved Mickey as a blacksmith... His Mickey scent being literally fire did something to my brain.

Mickey stares at his reflection in the mirror, long and hard. Scrutinizing his face in a way he rarely does, noticing the signs of age that seem to be creeping up on him a little more each day.

Wrinkles at the corners of his eyes, a permanent reminder of how the skin there crinkles when he laughs.

Faint smile lines at the sides of his mouth. Because he smiles a lot.

At sixteen, he didn’t think he’d live long enough to see wrinkles on his face. So each line is a reminder that he’s still here. Happy. With his husband.

It’s been playing on repeat since he cracked his eyes open. He gets up, gets dressed, starts coffee… and it still drones on.

And now he’s singing?? He sticks dental floss in his mouth to shut it up… and here’s Ian entering the bathroom with the judgiest face. He’s gonna think Mickey’s gone crazy.

Ian stares at him in the mirror, his eyes catching Mickey’s in the reflection.

Hi! Thank you for the ask! Here’s the summary for my current WIP:

Mickey never thought he’d find himself where he is. In the middle of nowhere, isolated, forced to use a fake identity, having given up everything he ever knew.

But he’s starting to get used to it. In fact, he’s come to accept that this is now his life. Little does he know that a stray dog and a redheaded veterinarian—one who has a past of his own—are about to change all of that, whether he’s ready for it or not.

And here’s a little excerpt from the first chapter, which I’m likely going to be posting tomorrow:

Mickey’s sure he must be quite a sight. Dripping wet, soaked hair plastered to his face, shoes covered in mud, a towel-covered dog in his arms. But he’s got a bit of an urgent situation at hand, and he doesn’t have time to spend wondering about the reason for this guy’s appraising stare. He raises his eyebrows and snaps, “Got a bit of a situation here, there a vet around?”

The redhead seems to rouse himself from whatever weird state he momentarily drifted into and answers, “Yes, that would be me. Dr. Gallagher.” This is the doctor. Wonderful. Then the doctor’s gaze falls to the dog in Mickey’s arms, and concern spreads across his face. He steps closer to get a better look, his brow furrowed as he pulls the towel slightly away from the dog and takes in his current state.

“Oh, buddy,” the doctor whispers soothingly before looking back up at Mickey. “Let’s get you guys into a room. And I’ll grab you a towel and a blanket. You’re soaked to the bone. Come with me, Mr. …” he trails off, waiting for Mickey to supply him with a name.
