“Oh… that shit. The fuckin’ feds came round for that? Damn. I can’t believe he a snitch. What a pussy.” Fez paused for longer than usual, wondering how or if he could talk his way out of this one. Although he’d done it for the right reason, his act had been violent, and not caused by a need for self defence; he should’ve expected this outcome considering the amount of witnesses.
Fezco glanced at Ash, who of course stayed silent, waiting to see if his brother would take an honest approach. Fez didn’t really see another option, and just hoped that Ruth would understand. “Look, Ruth. Man… this guy deserved it, okay? He’s a fuckin’ bitch. He keeps beatin’ on his brother, treatin’ him and his friends like shit. Ain’t nobody else gonna’ do nothin’, so I did. I was teachin’ him a lesson.”
“'That shit?’” His response was outright confirmation of his involvement, and she groaned. “God damnit, Fez.” Why couldn’t everybody just keep their heads down like they were supposed to? Seeing him debate what to say next, work out what to tell her, Ruth narrowed her eyes at him. His hesitation only served to piss her off more, not in the mood for bullshit. She knew him too well for that anyway, and they’d just be wasting time they didn’t have. “You better not be about to fuckin’ lie to me,” she warned, arms still crossed.
Thankfully, he continued on with an explanation, one Ruth knew to be the truth. Whilst she was grateful they’d cut the shit, she couldn’t say she cared for his reasoning. “Listen, cuz — I don’t care if he’s the bitchiest bitch of all the punk bitches. You don’t get fuckin’ involved, not if it ain’t for family, you should know that. Who the hell are these people, anyway? Since when you are playin’ bodyguard for some fuckin’ randoms?”
With an aggravated sigh, she finally dropped her arms. Their family wasn’t new to abuse, her own dad arguably the worst out of their family tree, so she was sure Fez was just acting on instinct. Still, they had to be better than this now. They had to be smarter. “No more fuckin’ lessons, alright? You keep out of it. I got a plan for this family, and it ain’t gonna play out in a jail cell. Now you’re expected down at the council chambers, so we gotta come up with somethin’ and fast.” She looked over at Ash, the kid also obviously thinking. “Anyone see you at this party? Besides the guy with brain damage.”
