@rwrdrabbleprompts Week 1.15.24
Alex stands beside him with a hand extended, his tie loose around his neck and lipstick smudged on his cheek from Ellen or June or a great aunt whose name Henry’s champagne buzzed brain cannot remember.
“Again,” Henry asks but he’s sliding his hand into Alex’s before the word is all the way out.
“Always,” Alex tells him, pulling him onto the dancefloor as the band plays something soft, sweet, and slow.
Alex hums along while Henry envisions a lifetime of this, barefoot in the refrigerator light or tipsy on New Years. A lifetime together in each other’s arms.
Henry takes a bite of what’s left of the grilled cheese before he sets it on the plate and slides it across the table to Alex.
Alex catches it, easily, then heaves a sigh before he takes a large bite, chews slowly.
“What the fuck,” he says, mouth still full and Henry laughs. “Seriously, babe. What the fuck.”
“Terrible twos, love,” Henry says as he gets to his feet, the echoes of Bella’s tantrum still ricocheting off the walls in the dining room long after she’s fallen asleep. He drops a kiss to Alex’s head. “Come help me clean up.”
Henry drags the washcloth across Alex’s skin then ducks his head and follows the path the soap left with his lips.
Alex’s eyes slide shut as he leans back against the tile with a sigh. He rests his hand on Henry’s shoulder and squeezes when Henry’s teeth scrape across his hip bone.
“Gonna start something?” Alex asks as the water pours around them and steam fills the room.
Everything feels slow and warm, like a dream.
“Almost always,” Henry answers, glancing up with a smile. “Are you up for it?”
Alex nods and rolls his hips forward. Henry leans in.
