I'm sure many readers might be thinking: "well, if the book is about how White Womanhood™ is so dangerous to women of color, why have we only been learning about the violence of white men so far?"

Because all of this requires context, my dears! History is important! I've said it before and I'll say it forever: so long as white women are unwilling to sacrifice the power that comes with whiteness, they themselves will never escape the white patriarchy! And as we've learned over the course of history and even until today (Erika Kirk, anyone?) White Womanhood™ will often lean into that existing structure to weaponize whatever power is available to it (and who built the structure?) How are you gonna destroy what you depend on?

As much as I despise the cultural power of The Handmaid's Tale, Serena Joy continues to be my all time fiction example of what it means to be a white woman that will cut your nose off to spite your face. Help build a society that would inevitably hold her down- one led by powerful men. So trust me- once we get to part two, we're gonna see how this all comes together!
