Screen Tone Scraps

These are authentic leftover screen tones used during the creation of Tommy’s Issue #1. Many sheets were cut and applied throughout the production process, and rather than discard the larger remaining pieces, they’ve been preserved for creative reuse.

Tommys Issue 1

Tommy’s has been printed, folded, and bound. The printer is arranging shipment. Soon, these copies will be on their way to new homes. Making, printing, and distributing Tommy’s all by myself has been such an exhilarating ride. There is nothing like seeing the finished product come to life. Every step and every decision was on me. That made it so exciting. This was my 2025 challenge. I wanted to finally get off my butt and make a comic, and I did it.

I have to give a huge thanks to the people who pushed me along and helped me: Omer Glitch, Aster Dee, and Mello. Big shout-outs to those guys.

Whether it fails or succeeds, it does not matter. I accomplished my childhood dream.

TOMMY'S Issue #1 Done

2025 is done, and I actually forced myself to sit down and work on a book. Well it’s like 98.5% done. I should have finished sooner, but I am constantly tweaking the lettering, SFX, and the cover… Which set me back a bit, maybe a couple more days, and it’ll truly be done. 

I’m really glad I pushed myself to focus and actually finish something. I also want to thank all the people who helped me along the way those who lifted my spirits and encouraged me to keep going. I’ve always had a habit of starting projects and giving up halfway, but working on Tommy’s was a genuinely fun experience. HA!

A little after-effects practice for lunch.

Over the weekend I brushed up my After Effects skills and made a quick trailer for Tommy’s using found footage from old 70s butcher shops and lost-and-found films. I searched everywhere for clips of butcher shops, rivers, and New Mexico landscapes to get the right shots. Even with that, there were gaps in the story.

I tried using Grok to fill those gaps and was blown away. Most of the video cuts ended up coming from Grok’s Imagine tool. I know a lot of people dislike AI-generated art and film, and I get it. It can feel scary, even for my own career. I’m very afraid of AI too, but sometimes you have to adapt and use it. As a small creator, it’s almost impossible for me to hire someone to color my book or film this intro.

I would never use AI for pencil or ink in my own art, but I can see it being a great reference tool.

In the end, I’m thrilled to see something I imagined actually moving and functioning like a real short film. I never thought I could make my own horror book or short at this scale.
