ENG: Shamura was the one who sent Narinder to Purgatory, and yet, so that he wouldn’t be lonely, they gifted him Aym and Baal. Shamura saw straight through the deep-seated loneliness within Narinder and, knowing he would continue to feel alone, left him those companions. You can really feel how much Shamura cared for Narinder—and that’s what makes it so heartbreaking.

In fact, this episode is the story I most wanted to turn into a book. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that I published the book for the sake of this story alone. Shamura’s dual nature—cherishing their own family while being utterly indifferent to the families of others—felt incredibly compelling to me.

In the original work, Narinder grumbles that he ended up taking responsibility for Aym and Baal against his will, but seeing how well they grow up, I can’t help but think that even if life in Purgatory was lonely and painful, it was ultimately thanks to them that he managed to endure it. Although Narinder spent a thousand years trapped in Purgatory, and only fifty of those years with Aym and Baal… even those fifty years must have been a tremendous comfort.
