Model 1904 "Irish" Mannlicher Bolt Action Rifle from Steyr, Austria dated to the Early 20th Century on display at the Gordon Highlanders Museum in Aberdeen, Scotland
With the rise of groups recruiting and arming volunteers to fight for home rule and independance for Ireland from the British Empire, some Irish did the same to resist such ideas. The Ulster Volunteer Force was formed in 1913 and much like the revolutionary forces, looked to arm their volunteers with whatever weapons they could acquire. Many of the UVF forces were equipped with smuggled Model 1904 Mannlicher bolt action rifles made by Steyr Arms in what was the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
The British Empire had mixed opinions of these volunteers as they supported those who opposed Irish independance but the UVF also tried to steal weapons and ammunition from British army depots. When that wasn't working, a number of members smuggled Austrian firearms and ammunition through the port in Larne. With the outbreak of the First World War, most of its members went on to volunteer in the army or conscripted as a home defence force.

Armour from Augsburg, Germany dated between 1525 - 1530 on display at the Wallace Collection in London, England
This armour set was made by Kolman Helmschmid, considered to have been one of the greatest renaissance armourer as well as court armourer to the Emperor Charles V. The etched decorations around the borders of the armour were done by Daniel Hopfer another famous name in the Holy Roman Empire for printmaking. He is often credited with inventing the process of printing with acid-etched steel plates.
The original owner of the armour is unknown and is thought to have been a gift from the Holy Roman Emperor Charles V to one of his immediate circle of supporters. One candiate was CHarles's brother Ferdinand, who became King of Bohemia, Hungary and Croatia in 1527.

German Catapult Ships
Westfalen, Friesenland, Ostmark and Schwabenland were catapult ships used by Deutsche Luft Hansa in their Transatlantic Airmail Service, the usage of the airplanes shortened the time it took to transport mail by a whole day.
During WW2 the Luftwaffe requisitioned all 4 ships. The water airplanes with the ships were commonly used for reconnaissance flights.
On May 19, 1944, the Il-1 AM-42 heavy fighter made its maiden flight. Test pilot Vladimir Konstantinovich Kokkinaki. In terms of speed, from ground level to 4,000 meters, the armored Il-1 significantly outperformed the FW-190A-4, widely used by the Luftwaffe, and was virtually equal to the light Bf-109G-2, the enemy's most widely used fighter. However, thanks to the increased power of Soviet fighter aircraft, which had achieved strategic air superiority, the need for a combat aircraft of this type had already disappeared by mid-1944, so the Il-1 was not submitted for state testing.
