Much of what we are seeing now centric to the ongoing situation at Mercedes is that first of all, not only does Toto refuse to take accountability for the issues going on with George’s car and the issues that it has because it very visibly has issues and the way he said that they’ve failed Kimi in the last race was yet another way he chose to deflect from accountability, but secondly, as I mentioned in my tags, this is very much so similar to the way that he played Nico and Lewis along with their respective sides of the garage against each other. Because think about it this way. He’s not only criticizing George when he makes these little quips against him, he’s also criticizing the people who work on his side of the garage as well in a very low brow way, because it’s no secret that the team boss’s favorites often get more resources allocated to their car, in this case, Kimi. This leads me into my third point, the one that I partially made in my tags on the post, which is that I have a suspicion that we will see him plateau much like Oscar did at some point in the season, ultimately costing him the title. Many will probably read this and say that they are very much so two different drivers which they are however, there is something to be said for the fact that when you have a second/third year F1 driver in their first season fighting for the title who is dominating and then the tide turns for whatever reason whether that be a decrease in confidence, lack of experience (because age and experience always wins out over youth especially in the modern era of Formula One that we are currently in, and this is for a variety of different reasons), lack of support from their team when things start to go south or a combination of all three. We saw this last year with Oscar and Lando and McLaren, and I do think that it’s some point we see this happening between Kimi and George, but we are not at that point in the season yet both in a figurative and literal sense because Spa was one of the races that Oscar won last year. However, the cracks are there if you know where to look for them.

gunna be honest the sky team showing Toto a video of George being swamped on the straight and saying “well clearly he doesn’t have straight line speed as you can see here” multiple times

only for Toto to waffle some bullshit like “we all make mistakes sometimes” or “George knows the team backs him 100%” or “all of the Mercedes engines are struggling” or “these regulations just don’t suit every driver’s style” or “we are always trying to do better” or “last race we failed Kimi” …..

it’s just this complete and utter refusal to acknowledge that George’s car has an issue that is directly causing him to be slower than Kimi, and the refusal to take accountability for that, COUPLED WITH his immediate rolling over and apologising as soon as something goes wrong for Kimi that’s just really pissing me off
