the choice to have genau gain wings (and stark too by proxy when genau carries him) in s2e8 (a magnificent end) was so beautiful to me and resonated with me so much

cause one of the beautiful things about frieren is that it uses as a framework the pilgrimage narrative, since the party are essentially on a pilgrimage to get to heaven, and this brings really beautiful christian thematic resonances to the story

because, just as in a christian narrative, the story is about mortals learning that their purpose is to serve heaven

(though it takes this theme and makes them about being a human being in general rather than making it exclusively christian: in frieren, its about mortals learning to serve death/learning to serve some mysterious "something," an ideal or a feeling, that is beyond life. which is a lovely universalisation of christian ideas)

angels are figures that fight in god's name and mediate between the human world and the heavenly world, they guard, protect, guide souls after their death

so in defending the dead and making sure their memory isnt defiled, genau and stark become like angels, hence the wings

this made me very emotional. cause the burden of thinking like an angel when you are just a mortal must be very heavy, and genau and my baby stark did it anyway

so i have been delighted by the heavy similarities between rust syndicate and the port mafia since i met them, thinking wow theyre so similar that if i were really delulu i might say they were inspired by the port mafia, but of course im not that crazy delulu and this is just a way of amusing myself. BUT NOW MAYBE I REALLY AM DELULU CAUSE WHEN CORBEAU FALLS BACKWARDS OFF OF THE HUMAN LADDER WITH HIS ARMS OUT LIKE THAT WAS THAT A REFERENCE TO DAZAI?? cause its both the iconic moment from the first opening AND what dazai does when he is head of the port mafia in beast for the dramatic finish. i know this case is so weak and im not saying its definite but i think its POSSIBLE that rust syndicate is inspired by the port mafia and that was a very subtle nod to the influence. of course i am probably in fact just the bsd fan stereotype in that im a person who sees bsd delusionally in everything

beast is theoretically supposed to be the world where things are a little better for everyone, and even with the foresight b!Dazai had of his other self's memories, he still managed to not accomplish that because his idea of what happiness would look like in others was greatly misinformed, even a bit presumptuous to assume a world without him in it would automatically make others happy

even before the beast movie showed us how Chuuya reacted to Dazai's death or the interview about how in the original timeline Chuuya thought Dazai was dead for four years when he left the mafia, I never got the sense Chuuya hated him so much that he wanted Dazai dead and would be glad about that because Chuuya's never celebrated the death of another person, no matter how much they might've wronged him

b!Dazai thought b!Chuuya's happiness would look like a world without Dazai in it, so he distanced himself as much as possible and did everything he could to make Chuuya genuinely hate to make leaving the world easier for the both of them, and it ended up doing the total opposite where he instead sacrificed Chuuya's happiness

I think it ties into Dazai's feeling of self-worthlessness and as someone meant to come and go in other people's lives, never stay long, and certainly not leave an impression on others. he fails to see his own worth and it also ties into why remaining with the mafia it's easier for him to sacrifice himself when he's still struggling with his place in the world and his worth to it and to others

he thinks his death is a key part in making other people happy; not even just Chuuya, but that it would make Akutagawa happy, Atsushi, even b!Oda

Even though I've never used ChatGPT or any generative AI before (and never plan to), I had a really bad c.ai addiction a few years ago before I really understood how awful AI is, and I DESPISE the fact that every other thing that's been showing up on my dash lately is an ad for shapes.inc

I have since sworn off AI chats, but it is SO frustrating to see stuff like that getting advertised like nothing is wrong with it
