Did you enjoy seeing NASA launch the first crewed mission back to the Moon two days ago? Well, the new presidential budget request just dropped and it cuts funding to NASA by 23% and to NASA science specifically by ~50%. This would be catastrophic. It also calls for replacing the exact rocket and capsule that JUST launched with commercial projects. It calls for eliminating outreach to K-12 schools. It ends partnerships with HBCUs. It is fucking awful.
He requested almost identical budget cuts to NASA last year. Thanks to exhaustive work by NASA employees and members of the public, calls to congresspeople led to a final budget that maintained the prior year’s funding. This still wasn’t ideal, but we avoided catastrophe. I know there are many things you may already be calling your representatives about. But I urge you to add this to the list. Tell your representatives that you strongly oppose cuts to NASA’s budget. Remind them of the importance of the extremely cool shit that they JUST did and continue to do. Help save NASA.
