Anyone else just feel like disappearing
moments in love
““Oliver, I don’t understand,” he said. “Why?” “You know why.” I was done pretending otherwise.”
— If We Were Villains by M.L. Rio (Act V, Scene 7)
Some things, once you've loved them
become yours forever
And if you try to let them go
They only circle back and return to you
They become part of who you are
I can't believe people compare If We Were Villains to Secret History and call it a copy. Yes, both of them have dark academia aesthetic and story is about group of friends, where one of them get killed, but the concepts of both of these books are completely different. Secret History is more about psychology and consequences of living by Ancient values and moralities. It also reveals how big impact teachers can have on their students. This is a tragedy of being wasted by implanted desires. If We Were Villains also shows the power of poetry and its impact on people, but completely differently. It's clearly about the Shakespeare's conceptions e.g. theatrum mundi, which determined all characters' action. To sum up, there can be some similarities, but saying that one book is worst version/copy of another, shows a misunderstanding of the points of these two books. Although, both of them are extremely well written, so it's subjective opinion which one somebody likes better or just prefers more
