Yeah, I don’t know what Freud was thinking, but Oedipus very much did Not want to fuck his mom. He spent the entire play trying to avoid that, and then gauged out his eyes when he learned that he had anyway.

I think in the same way there's a 90/10 rule with horror and comedy (horror works best when it's 90% horror and 10% comedy and vice versa) there's a 90/10 rule for some relationships in fiction that's like. Wholesome and fucked up. A good friendship is at its most compelling when it's also 10% a bit fucked up. Immediately after Tony pulls some self sacrificing stunt again

It says a lot about Stony that Tony looked the most openly vulnerable and lost during Civil War. He experienced so much pain during his solo movies but he still kinda rolled with it and kept up a mask to everyone except on few occasions with Rhodey and Pepper but in CW you can very clearly see all the painc so clearly on his face. Every scene he shared with Cal he looked the most unmasked and distraught we've seen him. He was just so RAW throughout the entire movie

oh my god, friend, i KNOW. the scene at the JCTC in particular just [shakes clenched fist at the sky]. tony tried a lot to reason with steve throughout the whole movie, but this fucking scene…

he’d already tried being his usual difficult self; he’d tried being Professional Team Leader™️, tried telling steve people were demanding “consequences” for his actions, but this. this! this was him trying something that we’d never seen tony do (at least not that i can remember). he brought out the big guns for this one. “hey, wanna see something cool?” like. jesus h christ, this is tony stark blatantly putting himself out there, trying to connect with steve. “i pulled something from dad’s archives.” i don’t think i have to explain why howard is a sensitive subject for tony, but he STILL went through howard’s stuff, searching for something that would help bridge the divide between him and steve. 

tony’s not wearing any of his masks here. he’s not making any jokes; he’s not trying to be the smartest person in the room. this is raw honesty. he’s not doing all this to be difficult, there is a reason. tony believes with everything in his bones that this has to be done and he’s trying to make steve see it from his side.

let me put it this way: tony didn’t look this heartbroken even when obie – someone he’d believed was a friend during his whole life – literally ripped his heart out of his chest. pissed off tony? sure, we’ve seen that a lot, but heartbroken tony? not that often. from the way tony looked at that pen you’d think steve had just given back an engagement ring or something.

and the final blow is tony literally putting his walls back up and swallowing his feelings of betrayal and disappointment.

every single day i'm thinking about that article from the apogee awards slideshow where a 16 year old tony's been "quietly" building dum-e "in a dark corner" of the lab and he's like "it's fun to build something new! i have lots of ideas for changing everyday life. i wanted to win, so i did!" and then half the article is like actually about his dad and comparing him to his dad and just. assumes tony will probably switch from robots to building weapons and it's like. just let him build robots actually. leave him alone i'm so upset

Tony has been told his whole life that he’s selfish, narcissistic, not the type of person to lay down on the wire to let another person cross, not worthy of being a hero, nothing without his suit, overall a ‘bad person’. I think it would mean the world if someone he thought highly of (Peter) (the epitome of pure intentions, integrity, and love) was certain he was good too.

I wouldn’t think Tony’s usually told that he’s good. I think he would know it partly, because he’s not an idiot; he KNOWS he’s done good, but he would think he has done just as much bad. Realistically, I think a sentence with the words ‘you’ and ‘a good person’ is something he needs to hear.

one of my pet peeves is when in young!Tony Stark fics, like hs or college aus, they give him a goatee. I WILL be ignoring that every single time because 1. I simply don't think he had that style till he was older, but 2. I have an obsessive collection of young RDJ photos and you can rip my sweet baby-faced RDJ fantasies out of my cold dead hands. I didn't watch those terrible 80s movies for the plot, it was to see his cute lil face 😪

i think we as a society need to start accepting that fictional love stories need to be a bit toxic for us to go insane over them… like, sometimes you kinda need the two parties to be obsessed with each other and fucked up and willing to bring each other back from the dead instead of moving on and go to therapy i’m sorry😔
