The last thing Sir Samuel Wilson needed was for this already interminable journey to be further delayed by a band of stupid brigands.

๐๐๐๐๐๐๐:
๐ดt was a well-known fact that Sir Samuel Thomas Wilson hated being away from the sea. The water was his most natural element, and his mother had often jested that he had been born with sea legs, balancing on ship decks long before he ever learned to walk or ride a horse. Yet if there was one thing he loathed even more than the absence of water, it was carriage travelโlong, monotonous hours trapped in a jostling, cushioned box. It was, in his view, a slow, cruel torture, one he would never willingly subject himself to. Alas, on this fine Wednesday morning, he found himself enduring both of these miseries at onceโshut up in a carriage, leagues away from the briny air of Delacroix.
The Royal Palaceโhis destinationโwas most inconveniently located at the very heart of the capital, half a dayโs ride from the nearest port. There was no way to reach it except by the pompously namedย Royal Path,ย a narrow and bumpy road, that offered nothing but a view of forest for miles on end. Three hours into the journey, and already Sam longed for his ship, and for the cool sea breeze caressing his face rather than the stifling warm air of the carriage.
He tugged irritably at the stiff collar of his ridiculous court doublet, trying to remind himself why he was doing this. The trip, however unpleasant, was his chance to secure a lucrative trade contract with the palaceโone that would appoint Wilson Family Fisheries the official seafood supplier for the coming year. It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, one that every merchant in the kingdom coveted. With the endless gargantuan feasts and balls hosted at court, such a contract would all but guarantee brimming coffers for years to come. For Sam, it would finally mean enough coin to repair theย Paul and Darleneย and perhaps even expand the fleet. More importantly, it would ensure his sister and nephews would never want for anything again. Put in that perspective, enduring a stuffy carriage ride seemed a relatively small price to pay.
