The Cephalotes varians (aka the northern Caribbean turtle ant) sculptures have finally been photographed! It was tough because their lovely little door heads reflect the sunlight a bit too much for my liking but we made it work. This is one leg of my suuuuuper late attempt at a partial FeBUGuary challenge. They're now listed on my website!

hot take but i think cars should be required to have communication radios just like big semi trucks. we should all be able to talk to each other on the road. not bc this would help in any way but because i want it to sound like a counterstrike lobby every time i drive somewgere
Pro-stump memes for your wildlife and nature-friendly gardening needs
Seriously though, if you've ever overturned an old log in spring or summer you know those things are teeming with life despite the wood being dead. Beetles, isopods, myriapods, termites, ants, spiders, worms, salamanders, frogs, snakes, and the list goes on and on, some living under and some inside. Stands to reason that this is the same for stumps and dead trees that are still standing as well. Find the right stump, the right tree, you might find birds too! Not even just animals; fungi, moss, lichen, slime mold, etc! Death and rot is an important aspect of biodiversity and that includes trees.
