✰ homecoming as a teenage avenger headcanons!
you had been best friends with peter parker for a looooong time.
you lived right next to aunt may’s apartment, and when peter moved in, you two clicked instantly.
the two of you had the same nerdy sense of humor & constantly joked around, prompting aunt may to institute a ban on star wars talk at the dinner table :/
so, when he got the “ stark internship “, of course he told you. (he never could keep a secret.)
but, then he told you all the other details, which resulted in you having to go through an interrogation about what you knew about the avengers.
HOWEVER, they soon figured out that you were gifted as well (with powers or not, you decide!), and so you became an avenger too.
well, "junior avenger", as tony infuriatingly insisted on calling you, peter, and your new friend harley. but still, an avenger is an avenger, even if you're not allowed to go on missions during school nights.
but when you're a “junior avenger”, you have busier things to do than go to school dances.
or so you thought.
because one day, when you were staying over at the tower after a long week of school, you came downstairs for something to eat, turning around to see the cap quartet (aka steve, sam, bucky, and natasha) giving you stern looks, arms crossed.
and obviously thats scary, right? like i would cry if that happened to me
so you’re just like “heyyyy”
insert whirring of coffee machine
no one says anything, not even steve, who's usually cheery in the mornings.
but then natasha reaches to the table, picking up a flyer & raising an eyebrow.
not just any flyer, though. the flyer for midtown's homecoming.
uh oh.
" liste-"
"you've got some explaining to do." bucky says, and you grab your mug, pouring the coffee in & not breaking eye contact, honestly a little scared about what would happen next.
except then peter and harley walk into the room, THANK GOD.
but then sam gives them a look, and they sit beside you, noticing natasha's flyer.
y'all can communicate without words, so you know exactly what's happening.
steve, sitting down in a backwards chair: "so, you decided to skip homecoming."
and it takes so much strength not to laugh.
even sam is about to break. except then there's bucky with an elbow to the stomach, and he's frowning once again.
"steve, it's honestly not that big of a deal. prom is more import-"
"you're going." bucky says, interrupting harley.
honestly, that's enough to convince all three of you, because you don't mess with bucky.
"it'll be fun!" steve tries, clapping you on the shoulder, and sam nods.
"yeah, a lot of fun. you do realize it's tonight though, right?" you say, eyebrow raised.
by the looks of it, they did not know it was tonight.
" we'll handle the outfits. " natasha said matter of factly, and that was that.
fast forward to a few hours later, and you were all wrapped up in either one of pepper's old dresses or one of tony's suits (you choose!), and it honestly didn't look that bad on you. as much as you hated to admit it, they were all right. you were a little bit excited.
peter ran off to get a tie from tony, and you collapsed in a big armchair,
but then you heard harley's voice from the other side of the door.
" don't laugh y/n. promise me you won't laugh. "
" you know i can't promise you that, har. " you reply, already supressing a smile.
and then there he is, shuffling into the room with his hands in the pocket of a light purple suit.
" let me guess. clint's. "
his sheepish face reveals that you were on the money with that one. but truthfully, it doesn't look bad at all, and you think he knows that too.
but that doesn't stop peter from laughing when he bursts into the room.
" you can't even talk! that tie doesn't match. " harley replies, and you nod along with him.
" alright grimace, gather up your friends and get downstairs." tony says, appearing at the doorway with a smirk. (grimace is the purple mcdonalds guy btw) "we want pictures."
that's right. even though they were superheros who saved the world almost every other day, the avengers were just as embarrassing as any parental figures would be.
there was steve, thor, and bucky, squinting at their phones as they tried to navigate to the camera, and there was sam pointing out the camera app for them. there was clint in the corner of the room, giving the three of you a thumbs up at you walked towards them all. there was natasha, a satisfied "i told you so" smile on her face, nudging bruce, who looked up at you all, face breaking into an easy grin.
" alright. say 'i'm pretending like i actually want to go to homecoming!' " said clint, raising his phone along with the rest of them, snapping pictures of your smiles that weren't so forced any more.
" happy will drive you. if you need anything, text us. " tony said, mussing up peter's hair. " don't drink anything weird. don't eat anything weird. don't talk to anyone who looks evil. "
" you do realize we know how to handle ourselves, right? " harley said, to which tony gave a small smile.
" they grow up so fast. " natasha remarked, and you rolled your eyes, though there was a warm feeling in your heart.
the night actually wasn't bad at all. it felt even better knowing that you would be able to tell them your stories, knowing natasha and clint would get a kick out of the videos you secretly took of harley doing the worm and peter singing along to the music.
secretly, you knew the cap quartet had been right all along.
though you would never tell them that, of course.
this is my other account so yall should check it out :D
