HEY MIDWEST FOLKS IM FROM ALASKA AND I JUST WANNA TELL YOU THIS BECAUSE IVE YET TO SEE ANYONE SAY THIS BUT PUT SERAN WRAP ON THE INSIDE OF YOUR WINDOWS SO YOU HAVE A DECENT SPACE BETWEEN THE SERAN WRAP AND THE WINDOW. WE DO THIS A LOT IN ALASKA BECAUSE IT HELPS TRAP THE HEAT INSIDE AND KEEPS THE COLD AIR OUT.
Seran wrap is good!! Itâs also good to keep curtains closed or if youâve got extra blankets or towels or something, but those up too!! Iâm from Indiana, our winters get real cold, but this is real extreme.Â
Some extra tips:Â
If you have a box heater in your room, shut your door and keep the heat in there.Â
If you have vent heating, also keep your door shut. Keep bathroom doors and doors to rooms with out vents, or rooms to outside doors shut.
Most of us have storm windows cause the midwest has those nasty storms. Make sure BOTH your windows are locked tight. On your inner window, if you see cracks, cover them with something! Seran wrap, socks, tissues, etc. Then put something over your window (mentioned above)
If it gets REALLY cold, and you only have a fireplace, STAY IN THE ROOM WITH THE FIREPLACE. Your whole family may have to camp out in that room (typically itâs the main room, but it may not be). If you have to, shut ALL OTHER DOORS. Bedroom doors, bathroom doors, closets, etc. This keeps the heat in that room and keeps it from spreading out and making the whole house an average cold. A fireplace cant keep bigger homes heated 100%. Iâve had to camp out for several days in the past, you may have to too!Â
JUST BE CAREFUL
Stay warm guys!Â
