I've learned a lot since leaving Corporate America in 2005 to run my own business full time. I could probably write a book with everything I've learned. The best part is that it has been full of surprises. There have definitely been challenges, and lots of falling or failing which always turned into growth. And at times I've wondered where I'd be or what my life would have looked like if I hadn't given it all up. I'll never know. What I do know is that I wouldn't trade it for a second. Because I got to watch my littles grow. I got to have surprise lunch dates with them at school. I got to be challenged and stretched. I got to celebrate women as they became wife, mother, survivor and unstoppable human beings through my photography. I learned how to be alone with myself and appreciate all of my strengths. Letting go and moving forward can be hard. Taking a leap of faith and stepping outside of your comfort zone - that is scary stuff! And yet paving your own way is so rewarding. Finding your own personal success is so worth it! So, if you've been on the fence, and wondering if you should take that leap or go after your dreams - do it! You'll never know what tomorrow looks like. There will always be uncertainty. At least you'll be able to say, "I tried" and "I didn't let fear stand in my way"! I dream of a world where women will start to look past the veil of perfection, and start to value our gifts and inner beauty more. A world where courage, strength and persistence are valued far greater than our pant size, our material objects, our Pinterest worthy life, and our need to look or feel perfect. Because #perfectionisoverrated and let's face it, all of those things can never make you feel loved or appreciated. If you truly want to be seen or heard, you must be willing to let go of perfection and learn to love yourself. Find value in all of those traits that make up your inner beauty. I used to be a dancer. It was my safe haven. It was a place where I could take all of my feelings and emotions and share them with the outside world. Without fear of judgement. I miss my dancing days, although now I am writing more. Returning to writing has allowed me to, once again, let go. Except I found that I still need an outlet for my energy. For my fears, for my anger, for my sadness. I needed a place to leave it all on the floor. I decided to try something new. To step outside of my comfort zone. There have been times in my life when I've felt like a total cynic. I was skeptical. I doubted everything until I could find proof. I was a total pessimist. I didn't believe in the possibilities. And those have been the times when I hated myself and life the most. What I really needed was hope. What I really needed was to love myself and to trust in the possibility of something greater. It's hard trusting in something that you cannot see. And yet choosing to remain optimistic, to be fearless, to have faith...it's what keeps me going these days. I remember feeling disenchanted when my (then) 5 year old daughter started asking for more. To keep up with all of the materialistic things that so many of her friends had. And even though we work hard and probably could afford to get more, I wanted none of it for her. I longed for her to embrace the simplicity of childhood, without a desire for more. So we moved to the country last summer, where farms are valued more than stores or status. It was intentional and it was hard. Leaving behind friends and embracing the unknown of a quiet, simpler life. And you know what? God is so good because he heard my prayers. He has brought us all closer and now, when she asks for more...she asks for chickens. #eastonct #intentionalmom #countrylife

Thank you for stepping up. For changing diapers in the family restroom at Target. For taking the morning off to read in their classrooms. For getting out of work early because their team needed a coach that afternoon. For watching their performances and cheering them on despite the score or the outcome. Because when all is said and done, this is what they will remember and this is what makes my heart grow fonder.
