Something about taking Corbeau to your hometown and showing him your roots.
Showing him your old schools. Visiting the lake you used to spend the weekends at. The spot where you met your first Pokemon. Your favorite restaurants and bars. Your childhood bedroom.
Even taking him to meet your family.
He’s odly quiet, save for the occasional playful remark, poking fun at the dated decor in your old bedroom. It’s not an uneasy nor tense quiet, but instead something gentle and calm. Corbeau leaves space for you to share your rawest of memories, and listens with rapt attention.
Outside of a dated ice cream shop, on old chairs with peeling paint and a metal table that wobbles with even the slightest touch, you ask; “are you okay?”
Corbeau nods, pulling the colored plastic ice cream spoon from his lips with a low ‘pop’. “Of course. Why do you ask?” His hair is down, the ends gently swaying in the chilly sunset breeze.
“Well, you’ve had less to say then I thought you would.” You take a bite of your own ice cream. There is no rush, Corbeau waits for you to finish. “I just hope you’re having a good time at least.”
“I am.” He says, earnestly. “I’ve just been…in thought, is all.”
“Yes.” Corbeau looks down at the cup of ice cream, then back to you. His eyes narrow pensively as he taps the spoon on the edge of the paper cup. “It’s, I don’t know, hard to describe.”
You tilt your head. “How so?”
He bites his lower lip, before letting out a sigh. “Seeing your home town has made me feel not only a deeper connection to you but…well. I’m not sure.” Corbeau looks at you, frowning softly. “It’s your childhood, but, in a way, I feel like I’m getting to experience one too.” Suddenly, he shakes his head. “That’s stupid. Forget it I said that.”
“No, I understand.” You sit upright, accidentally bumping the table and causing it to wobble. “I’m glad you can experience that, at least kinda? I’m happy to share it with you. You deserve to experience the things you never got to as a kid.”
He smiles slowly, expression relaxing. Reaching across the table, he takes your hand in his. “Thank you. I’m so glad to have met you.”
