you played like a child and now you sit with your heart in your hands, bloodied and bruised. you loved the chase because you couldn’t commit, he was willing to chase until he wasn’t. did you really think he wouldn’t tire? did you really think the chase was just going to continue on?
“y/n, what’re we doing?” you both sat across from each other at a cafe and you looked at him, confused.
“i mean how much longer are you going to have me chasing after you until i can finally have you?” he sighs and shakes his head. “i know it’s hard to commit to someone, but instead of just leaving me waiting, at least let me go.”
and for once in your life, now you understood what it was like to be on the other side. your whole life you’d been running, looking back to see you were still being chased, until you weren’t. now you look back and see no one else behind you. now you’re the one left chasing after no one because he’d already left you in the dust.
you still had his number, typed out countless texts you’d never send because why would you? why disturb him now that he’s moved on? he did spend so many years going after you.
you’re never going to receive this letter because i don’t plan on giving it to you, ever. asking you to wait for me a bit longer would’ve just been selfish. while i am happy that you’ve found someone to love you back, now i understand how you felt. who knew it would take the chase to stop for me to finally realize my feelings? how pathetic of me, right?
i’ve typed out lots of messages i’ve wanted to send you, but i decided to just keep my feelings to myself. maybe i’ll just love you from afar now.
you sniff and put the pen down. with shaky hands, you fold the paper up, stuffing it into an envelope. flipping it over, you read over his name again and again feeling the tears fall and land on the envelope. a finishing touch before you put it into a box of memories. maybe one day you could find it when your heart’s in a better place.
