Does anyone wonder what kind of a person Sasuke would’ve become if his clan still lived?

Grew up with his family and clan, have a healthy relationship and guidance, graduate at 12 etc.

Because every “AU No Massacre” still has Sasuke acting the same in canon and no, I think he would actually be different if his clan wasn’t killed and was tortured to watch it AT 7

His character’s core would roughly stay the same but I don’t think he would be the “same” as canon Sasuke.

I think I did find a long list of interviews after searching for it once. On tumblr tho I don’t think so but there are posts on here going over some of them.

I am just 120 episodes into Naruto but I've been plagued by this for a while so whatever.

Is Naruto x Sasuke gay on purpose or gay on accident? I think the answer is weird mix of both. Naruto is a story for a teenage male demographic and WSJ manga are geared towards appealing to masculinity. Masculinity as a trait in men is often a performance for men. Men don't try to seek the approval of any other gender for their masculinity. Other genders, primarily women, are accessories to increase masculinity but that is not who has the final say that matters in terms of true masculinity because [deep sigh.......] we live in a patriarchy, you get the drill.

The existence of women as accessory means their opinions, thoughts, contributions are just as frivolous in the eyes of this masculinity performance and they therefore recede into the background. This, on top of general misogyny and patriarchal beliefs leads to women and anyone of any other gender to straight up vanish from the story. They are insignificant, therefore their relationship with the men are also insignificant.

Naruto's entire premise is built on outperforming masculinity against each other. The Shinobi world values power, only men and boys are allowed to be powerful because "girls are weak and don't have the same amount of drive to push themselves as the booooooysss doooo".

Naruto and Sasuke's bickering rivalry is at the center of it all. Combat and power is acknowledgement. The story is so, beautiful in how it doesn't even try to pretend to be bigger than this. Strength gives you power, agency, respect, love, anything a man can want, even the leadership over a whole village! Combat prowess and power are therefore the only means by which people, more specifically the boys and men of this show communicate.

Naruto wants to get stronger not to impress Sakura. No, no, she's obviously secondary, her affection is the prize. Naruto ACTUALLY wants to get stronger to beat Sasuke. Not just beat him, to get him to acknowledge his masculinity. This isn't a gay thing, this is just how guys interact irl. They put on a whole performance where they act like they feel nothing around their guy friends when you know you saw that dude acting very different with the girls and the gays and the theys.

BUT. But if Naruto(the show) was just this, the homosexual subtext underlying Naruto and Sasuke wouldn't exist. Nay. There is more. While all of this is accidental subconscious systematic things working to shape their relationship, there is a deeply intentional aspect as well.

Naruto and Sasuke's relationship is the only thing that matters. Their bond is deep, profound, they acknowledge each other and they are the reason they have each gained that ever-coveted power.

More importantly, the emotions, the gushy-mushy totally manly bro trust me feelings are only verbalized and acknowledge with one another. I've heard Kishimoto wrote this story to center around the ways in which these two support one another, guide one another. They are the emotional crux, the heart.

You perform masculinity for this one guy and one guy only, you feel anything real only with this guy. What do you get? ROMANTIC TENSION. Intentional or not, the extent of it can vary however much but this is how you do it. It doesn't matter if you didn't know the recipe to making cake crepe and accidentally made pancakes. You've got a fucking pancake. Naruto and Sasuke's relationship accidentally stumbled right into a romantic dynamic from the get-go. Idc about author intentionality and what the man and his editors have said (death of the author yada yada). The text of Naruto is just, this.

it’s frustrating how some people deny the clear predatory subtext in orochimaru’s obsession with sasuke. it’s right there in the text, whether you want to acknowledge it or not.

starting with the curse mark, it’s literally an ownership contract. it’s placed on sasuke’s neck, a symbolic and literal form of control. later, it’s revealed the curse mark could take away sasuke’s free will. orochimaru is forcing sasuke to seek him out.

now think about orochimaru biting sasuke’s neck. it’s violent and intimate, followed by sasuke screaming in so much pain. his body is being violated, changed against his will. this is not something sasuke willingly subjected himself to. it’s abuse, plain and simple.

orochimaru’s conversation with anko shows his taunting nature. he implies anko is jealous of his interest in sasuke, while also commenting on sasuke’s beauty. talking about sasuke’s body in such a context isn’t innocent, it’s clearly possessive and uncomfortable.

orochimaru refers to himself as a predator multiple times and refers to sasuke as “prey” and as “his”, showing possessiveness. and talks about being interested in his young body.

sasuke’s discomfort is clear throughout the series. he tries to keep the curse mark a secret to avoid worrying others. and in part 2 he is seen sleeping with shoes on, as if he was ready to flee at any point in time.

even with all of this, there are still people who claim sasuke was willingly groomed. they ignore the abuse he’s enduring. his body, his autonomy, all violated. it’s mind-boggling to hear people excuse it.

orochimaru’s behavior is even more disturbing when you look at how he’s drawn. he licks his lips in many scenes while talking about sasuke, which makes even kabuto shudder. the subtext is clear: his attraction is disturbing, and it’s there in the text.

sasuke isn’t the only one targeted by orochimaru’s grooming. there's kimimaro, kabuto and team taka. karin also bears bite marks on her body and chest, implying a pattern of sexual abuse. it’s intentional characterization of orochimaru as a predator.

many fans outwardly deny and challenge orochimaru pedophile subtext despite often being the same ones making unfunny rape jokes about orochimaru and sasuke. they disregard this as him only wanting to possess sasuke's body as a vessel but it's clear there was more to it.

the openings and endings team really tried to drive the point home with their animations showing how clearly predatory the relationship is. sasuke is seen mostly naked when around orochimaru, it’s creepy and unsettling.

the manipulation, coercion, and violation of sasuke’s autonomy are not hidden or unclear, they are an essential part of orochimaru’s character and his relationship with sasuke. while some may downplay it as "just interpretation," the text itself is clear. kishimoto's writing reflects orochimaru's predatory behavior and dismissing it as mere "subtext" seems like an attempt to sanitize the uncomfortable truths in the story.

Any normal person who sees that Konoha was spying on the Uchiha in the filler episodes: The village doesn't even respect their privacy and moved them to the edge of the village to facilitate their annihilation.

Funny that, with that heavy surveillance and having Itachi infiltrated, they could have known exactly who was planning the coup and gone after them if they wanted. They still exterminated everyone, even the elderly merchants and the children. They were not spying the Uchiha to protect the village or to try and prove they caused the tailed beast attack (they knew all too well they didn't, that was a lie they consciously spread). They were just collecting information about the Uchiha to increase their chances of succeeding in their extermination.
