“it’s a good thing that the minecraft movie isn’t about the intense loneliness of minecraft’s world and finding growth and hope in a post-apocalyptic society because it’s for children” Have You Ever Spoken To A Child
children deserve deep and profound media as well and i’m tired of the idea that something is allowed to suck and be a cheap cash-grab on the account of it “being made for kids”
people will complain today how kids/teens have so little reading comprehension/media literacy and like. not only are the schools underfunded as shit but they’re also not Allowed to have that anymore. children’s media gets so dumbed down and censored and simplified that kids aren’t given the opportunity to learn and understand the intricacies of text because more often than not there’s either nothing there or it’s directly stated without nuance or subtlety. you can’t expect a child to go from shit like cocomelon and marvel to being able to expertly analyze the themes of any even bare-bones media because they were never given the opportunity to learn and explore for themselves. children deserve to have their worldview challenged and expanded the same way adults do. they need it more than adults do, even. giving children a pre-existing franchise they already love and using it as an excuse to teach them about deeper themes and messages is the most perfect way you could do it actually
