Just watched Adam Conover (of Adam Ruins Everything) make such a solid point that I think we should spread far and wide. Yes, having AI write your emails is lazy, sure, but people love being lazy. We need to really emphasize that sending AI emails (or using AI responses on social media, or publishing AI flyers, or or or) is rude.
It's rude. You're making someone take their time to read something you couldn't bother to write. You're telling them they were so unimportant you couldn't be bothered to actually take the time to say something yourself. And frankly, you're lying about it while you're at it.
It's rude.
It's a wild experience every time I tune into what's going on with Stop Killing Games because its opponents will say out loud, "It's just not possible for us, in this changing world, to make single-player games that aren't an always-online subscription service," and then people in the government will be like, "Well that's a good point, in this changing world it's just not possible for them to make single-player games that aren't an always-online subscription service," and like I'm old enough to remember when that wasn't even possible so it's honestly a bit baffling. It's like if all of a sudden the big sandwich bread companies started adding gravel to their sandwich bread and when people started complaining and lobbying to make it illegal to put gravel in sandwich bread the companies were like, "Well in the changing modern world it's just not feasible for us to not put gravel in sandwich bread, I mean how would we even do that?" and then the people in the government were like, "Yeah, it's not feasible, in the changing modern world, to not put gravel in sandwich bread, how would they even do that?"
I don't think I could stand to be active in that scene. I would bite someone

Hate the way the word racist has lost all of its weight in the last decade because I would really like some of y'all to take it completely seriously when I say you have lost your damn minds and become really nasty and hateful and for your own good you need to log off to go touch some grass and reconnect with the decency you once had
Bringing this back because seriously some of you guys have gotten way too comfortable saying the most out of pocket shit. I get that you don't want to play the lefty censorship game but there's a lot of room to call it like it is without resorting to outright racism or misogyny. You're right, the hypersensitivity on the left is ridiculous but that doesn't mean you need to run as far in the opposite direction as possible to prove it. Until a couple years ago, you were perfectly capable of finding a happy medium there. Please find it again because I don't really want to be around some of you these days.
A German regional court has ruled that Google is directly liable for the content of its AI search overviews. According to the court, previou
Let’s fucking go
This is HUGE.
1. The court holds Google responsible for statements made by its AI, considering them Google's statements (search engines have limited liability for results in their engine as they're the words of other sites/companies/people), meaning when their AI lies/hallucinates they're liable for the defamation/harm resulting from those statements.
2. Google's defense that customers are generally aware of the lack of reliability and are responsible for fact checking was dismissed. As the court pointed out, that would "significantly diminish" AI Search's stated purpose and it can't be distinguished from Google's business practices/statements as a search tool.
3. Studies have found about 91% of Google's everyday AI responses are accurate, leaving millions of searches per HOUR with potential liability for falsehoods. 56% of correct responses weren't supported by the sources the AI listed. Both of which mean Google is now liable for a LOT more AI "errors."
4. Google was held liable for 80% of court costs in this case and this precedent is expected to reverberate around the world. This is a massive shift from the 3rd-party search provider role Google has previously played and it comes right as they've tied ALL searches to their AI search.
TL;DR Google reeeeeally stepped in it this time.
tldr; my house is broken. might be homeless soon. pray for us.
so…it’s the professional opinion of several plumbers, septic companies, and remediation teams that our house is pretty much a lost cause.
for those new to the saga or unaware bc I have been bad at updating people: my dad, the sole provider of our family, died in December.
the remaining members of our family have been living in a hotel for a month and a half bc my house started having serious plumbing issues and we have NO running water rn.
the septic guy who came out to our house said the thing is built in a bowl; everything around us drains directly toward us. our septic system is completely broken. it’s full of rainwater and everything that was inside of it is backing up underneath our house.
legally, a new septic system has to be a certain distance from the road, the neighbor’s house, the old system, etc.
that sweet spot probably doesn’t exist, and even if it did, WE’RE IN A BOWL and the new system wouldn’t work well.
aaaand if the county found out about the fact that our house is sitting on top of hundreds of gallons of human waste with a 95% chance of that issue not being fixable, they’d kick us out and condemn our house.
none of us (me, disabled mom, disabled brother, 17 yo sister) have been in the workforce for long enough to qualify for a mortgage on a new house or even an apartment.

Stop using ai art to depict Jesus.
Jesus was a carpenter, he had to use his own creativity to make stuff.
Maybe you should too.
