Not enough people talk about Yue Qingyuan canonically ignoring orders and politeness to ask Shen Jiu about his wellbeing during Sect meetings. And no one talks about how everyone in the fucking Sect knows that Yue Qingyuan has some weird, one-sided obsession with Shen Jiu and they even use it as entertainment during said Sect meetings, cause watching him do all that while Shen Jiu doesn't acknowledge him is fucking hilarious

If there's sexual abuse subtext no there isn't, if there's allusion to sexual abuse you're ruining it for everyone else by talking about it, if there's a metaphor for sexual abuse you're reading too far into it and it's actually a metaphor for anything more palatable, and if there's on-screen sexual abuse? to me the thing that speaks most about shen jiu as a character is the fact that even the Worst version of him, who has fallen prey to his worst impulses and hurts other people because of jealousy and fear and deep-seated trauma, is still at heart someone selfless enough to risk his life for others. and not even just yue qingyuan, the one person he loves, but also liu qingge - whom he rightfully hates - and the sect itself, given he tried to expose shang qinghua for colluding with demons (which he was right about! if I were him I'd be 10000 times madder at yqy)

which is why i never understand the claims that every version of sj would be selfish or a bad person. even the worst version of him is a better person than the 'better' version of luo binghe

I have seen a few fics where Shen Jiu!Shen Qingqiu gets pollened into having kitty ears which gets him thoroughly embarrassed for a bit but I have yet to see one where it gets him straight up exposed

So he gets pollened and the other perk lord expect something like this:

Meanwhile Shen Qingqiu actually:

Shen Qingqiu still keeps up his usual act, which has the other perk lords quite confused. Sick? Ok. He got pollened. But wdym scared? Scared of what?? And all the time???

Meanwhile Shen Qingqiu has no idea his new body parts are betraying him like that. His mask is perfect after all, nothing has changed. Except the damn ears refuse to participate in the performance.

The thing that gets me about Shen Jiu is that it wasn't the mass murder, or the arson, or the thievery, or the manipulation, or the looting or anything else that made him think of himself as an innately venomous person, it was that he'd wished harm on Yue Qi.

When Yue Qi didn't come back, Shen Jiu didn't consider for a single moment that he didn't do it because he didn't want to. He thought that he was dead in a ditch somewhere down to the bones or starving and too proud to beg, he told himself he'd get away from Wu Yanzi and then promptly go find Yue Qi wherever he is, even if it required climbing a mountain to find his remains or living in poverty with him, because starving together had "together" in it, so it wasn't so bad.

And Yue Qi? Was fine. He was Yue Qingyuan now, beautiful and well-fed and famous, an amazing cultivator, the Head Disciple of the most senior Peak of Cang Qiong Mountain, one of the most prestigious cultivation sects in the entire world. Shen Jiu would've preferred he'd been dead or miserable rather than having chosen to leave him and that's when he accepted himself as someone who had simply been born bad. Wishing harm on Qi-ge was what finally broke him.
