Fadel's project was about creating an integrated system for managing the water desalination plant in Gaza electronically. This is an incredibly important project, because Israel has systematically destroyed Gaza's water treatment infrastructure, blocked repairs in countless ways, and targeted workers. Israel's attacks have been relentless since the eve of Eid al-Adha on Tuesday, May 26. Just yesterday the head of anesthesia at Al-Yafa Medical Hospital was killed in an attack that injured three others. Over 50% of hospitals in Gaza are nonfunctional. Even when Palestinians survive attacks, treatment is limited and medical bills are expensive.

This targeting of healthcare workers and infrastructure is the reason my friend Fadel needs to raise funds for medical evacuation to a hospital outside of Gaza to surgically remove shrapnel that embedded in his body during the Israeli airstrike that destroyed his home while he was inside.

He is being treated for severe anemia and malnutrition as a result of long term food insecurity and being unable to afford his monthly medication to treat his blood disorder.
