“Why don’t you leave the nectar alone for a sec?~“

I was in Switzerland when I suddenly got in the mood to draw BUP/Adrift Emerald again. One can never have enough Emerald, but shush.

Anyway, a couple things stand out about this: 1) I did this relatively fast. I had to spread it over a few days but all things considered, this full body went quicker than I expected. 2) I managed to draw a full body again. Let me tell you, that’s hard to do on an A4 without killing detail completely. But I think I can do another one at this new scale.

And 3)... This version of Emerald usually appears more blatantly cocky like I originally drew her than reservedly seductive like this. I realized as I was drawing this that this mood is probably a rare sight. Most likely when the BUP nerd version of Carl starts to secure a place in her heart?

Overall, I liked how this turned out, am shocked even. I hope you like it too!

So just saying, things have happened since I last posted here. I have doodled a thing or two and colored several Adrift designs. Life did get a little rough on the graduation side first, making it hard for me to post anything here to begin with.

Then... check my main blog, honestly. Things got crazier.

But I’m gonna see what I can post. A new work should be coming up soon. Adrift designs will be posted once I’ve either 1) colored all current ones or 2) completed more designs, not sure which.

Hua both is and isn’t like she was in splatoon. She’s still a nerd who knows how to fight her battles, and she’s also still stubborn, with no politeness filter. This causes her problems in earlier teams, until Primrose sees her potential.

Unlike her splatoon version, BUP Hua began to repress/change who she was, training in martial arts. If people couldn’t appreciate her brains, they would appreciate her prowess instead! As such, she’s infinitely more physical this time. When Hua channels her firework powers through her kicks, sparks and more WILL fly! Her power is actually extremely versatile, but Hua and Primrose have only scraped the surface...

Back in inkopolis, it was always a question whether Primrose was just wise, or also spiritual and/or high. I can confirm that in the Bottled Up universe it’s all three... well, not high. As a plant person, Primrose can smoke weed and plants with no negative consequences (regular cigarettes and poison, not so much).

Either way, Primrose is still a wise, hard-to-grasp (at times) woman who claims to be above earthly desires but is also the stealthiest perv. Despite her eccentric nature, Primrose understands the inner workings of Glasses (possibly even the other spirits, whatever those are called) and their powers better than just about anybody. And her white and red roses have immense range and coverage!

The last character I have already drawn a BUP version of is Primrose’s right hand woman, Hua:

Ashley’s Splatoon incarnation was introverted and anywhere from shy to snarky. So is her Bottled Up version, although she ditched her gas mask and got herself a firespittin’ bandanna! Here, Ashley is a bit more of a rebel, although still because life didn’t work out too great for her so far. I don’t know what happened just yet, only that Carl is very protective of her and probably blames himself for it.

Like her brother, her power is pyroclastic flows. Unlike Carl, her element is more air than fire, allowing her to surf the volcanic fallout! However, since fire is not her dominant element, Ashley has to take care to not end up in her own clouds. Still, if she’s trying to crash a pyroclasm into you, RUN! Otherwise “Surf’s up, dumbass!“

Aside from Emerald Play, I also got halfway with team Rose Rad‘s BUP versions, like their captain Primrose:

So Carl, he changed quite a bit because, well, we don’t know much about Bottled Up, let alone whether there is some sort of agent equivalent or anything. Carl traded his beret for half-rims and became less of a military geek... though I bet he still reads war fics. Maybe something about a fire nation? :thinking:

You can’t spell charcoal without Carl (I know, don’t question past me), so his power is pyroclastic flows, which obviously is fire. Carl is also able to create more temperate, bigger clouds which can serve as smokescreens. His most valuable asset however, is his knowledge on how to go about whatever it is the “spirits” will be doing in BUP!

As far as the BUP equivalent of team Emerald Play goes, only Carl’s sister Ashley remains...

I guess I feel up to this. My splatoon OCs or their BUP/Adrift versions, I will do character-letter-number combinations you send me over at this blog. However, since I’m new at this, I may not do everything and might decide between the splatoon/BUP version of any character you specify.

Indie’s still a friendly but weird New Orleans nut, but this time he’s accompanied by his pet raven, Henry! Unfortunately Henry usually hates anything except his master.

Anyway, Indie’s power is tentacles, more specifically “horrors of the deep“ ctulhu and counts as water element. That element also allows him to deep sea salvage to scavenge things that would make nice/”nice“ bottle decorations, like his bottle shipwreck.

He’d totally make one for his unfortunate crush! Splatoon Indie had a crush on Callie but since I can’t transfer her to BUP I had to come up with something else. Fortunately @flowingchiaki drew a BUP version of Cherri, one of her OCs (which I like a lot) so I suppose Indie loves her now and Henry doesn’t, as per usual. XD

Now who’s next?

It’s Solid Vampire Squid, Carl, the military geek... Or is he still one?

Less of a diva, more of a daredevil, that’s the Bottled Up version of Emerald. But she’s still often the center of attention and loves every second of that!

Her power is vapors, most commonly euphoric gasses that make you feel too good for your own good. Fitting for someone who’s basically addiction in the flesh and whose bottle is a wine bottle.

Also shown: A chibi and some doodles, including one of Emerald butting heads with fellow poison person Arnick (official character). She poisonous, but not an ASS!

On a side note, Emerald was the only one that I was able to color. From here on it’ll just be lineart (though I might still color later).

It’s been forever since I posted here remotely frequently. But I’ve been on a three-week vacation and oh boy did my hands slip! I got so much stuff for you guys that an announcement is warranted!

So @tamarinfrog is now making her running start on her original series Bottled Up. We know little ATM but what little we have seen and learned sure looks intriguing. Check it out! Also, it’s not Splatoon’s setting which, while brilliant, is a bit confining.There’s that too! So I followed Tammy’s footsteps a bit and converted some of my Splatoon OCs (which I like well enough) to whatever the “spirits” are supposed to be. It’s liberating to be sure!

I’ve converted six and have ideas for more, which I’ll dub Bottle Adrift. I don’t know if this will solely be for fun or if this will also get somewhere, but that’s a lot already. Too much to just dump on you all at once, in fact! So I’ll probably drop an OC every day.

I almost forgot I did do something during holidays. Dungeons and Dragons was a holiday tradition, and usually there’s a playerbase to spare when we go to Switzerland. This year was no exception, and as we made the switch to DnD5, I decided to use the character from last summer, Enrica Redwall, the combat medic with a thing for injury!

More relevant to this blog, I drew her while I was at it. Due to starting at level 1, I couldn’t be a fighter-barbarian (which she was last summer) so I settled with barbarian, which meant no armor. Fine by me all things considered. The outfit took some puzzling but came out well methinks. If only I were a digital artist so I could actually fit the halberd on the piece for once

Since I had no scanner during holidays, I traced my own linework to make a copy, and then colored it. It was quite thrilling considering I could screw up the entire copy this time! Erase the linework and some such every time I screw up a color. Nonetheless this turned out decently well!

If you read my FAQ by some weird chance, you know I have a drawing tablet. What you don’t know is that I got it from my brother like four years ago but never used it... until now, as you can see!

So why now? Why this shitty? Well, the latter is intentional as it parodies/imitates this. It’s a review for one of the worst levels in MaGMML2, and it’s in comic form. The last sentiment fits several things. For one, it fits a struggle with steam I had on the day I finished it. It also fits one of the streams I’m going to condense (Link TBAL).

Struggles were obviously involved. I knew nothing. Had to figure out how to put layers to use. Also had to put up with my pen pressure only when I began to work on the BG. Basically all the things when you foray into digital art! ^_^’

Anyway, glad to have finished this!

Oh uhh, some thanks go to @clodcast as well. The old outfit of my persona made little sense and I had trouble drawing it. So I adopted what he drew for my sort of trainersona and colored it myself since that’s something he didn’t do. I‘ll probably stick with it!

So while Primrose and Lorelei got their vacation full-bodies (half-bodies turned into full-bodies while I was in France), I held off on Styx’ because there were other things I wanted to draw at the time. A recent rut has called for some therapeutic coloring, so here is Styx’ vacation full-body at long last.

At long last, the troll is there in her short-ish glory, hellspawn Octo Goggles and all!

Most of the struggles here came for leaving this uncolored for so long. It gave me opportunities to slightly improve the bangs but one of Styx’ hands ended up suffering in return. Also her clownfish basics were a slight problem because I didn’t study the refs particularly well beforehand.

Unfortunately I am pretty much out of things to full-body now. I can color a thing or two but I feel my desire to draw falls short in these busy times. It may even mean the end for my Splatoon content, but that is a story for another time, when it happens. ^_^’

Well, here we go. Both Ashley and Florenz needed some art, so this reveal as it will probably happen was something I wanted to do. I still don’t know what Florenz’ problems are, but they’re probably better than being an introverted octohybrid and not fitting into an extroverted inkling society. :(

This is also probably the first time I’m attempting an attack on your feels! XD

So it may be obvious, but I didn’t think this through. After all, I can’t comic just yet, from composing to drawing at a bazillion scales. Hence a composition that looks a little odd.

Other challenges included the gas mask, as always, and Florenz with uncovered eyes. I did not think that last one through, so I had to doodle a Florenz first before I could draw him here in a new angle.

All things considered, this came out well!

As you may have noticed, I don’t color a whole lot. After the cover from a while ago, I am really burnt out on coloring. ^_^’

Not much to say about this one. Done in a few hours, though there were struggles with the larger scale and dem lips.

THE TURF TYRANTS COMETH!!

Oh my god. I actually did it. I finished a complete, full-color piece! And now that I did, I shall give you context!

So back in France, I saw a cover: @tamarinfrog, who writes and draws Café Cardamari Tales, among many other things, had just posted the cover of the fourth chapter, Poisonous Past, on the Café Cardamari blog. And then inspiration just hit: I also wanted to show off my oppressive top-notch battlers of team Regallon in all their glory (and in this case dominance over team Emerald Play). And so I started on vacation, and slowly progressed back home.

I am proud of even accomplishing this, but it wasn’t without problems, oh no! Keep an eye out on my art blog Scanner vs Artist if you want to hear those details!

Trials and tribulations were promised. And hoo boy there were a lot of them!

Let’s start by mentioning that this was at first intended to be a (probably bogus) cover. I mean, even if I couldn’t make the comic, at least I’d have an awesome looking cover. But alas, just like comics, comic covers require a lot of careful positioning that is a bitch to do as a traditional artist. I knew my usual scale would be too big for what I was trying to do, but still I ended up without the negative space needed for a title. Thus, no cover.

Another limit of traditional art likewise arose with Styx. I wanted to draw her in human form but I was lacking the horizontal room. Then I got the idea to put her on Riley’s lap like a Bond villain pet. Definitely had a laugh with that. Same problem with Lorelei, who I wanted to draw next to Riley. Again got creative and that’s how she ended up where she is.

By the way, I’ve practically never drawn a throne, so obviously Riley’s was a bitch. -_-

Then colors. No idea what to do with them beyond the throne and cast. And that left the floor, BG and flags, making up the majority of space on the sheet. Considered brown, blue and purple for BG colors. Problem was that purple also was the color of the cover that inspired me in the first place. That said, once I tried those colors out, any concerns about too closely resembling the Poisonous Past cover melted away.

Then one final fun fact that allowed me to experiment in the first place: You should notice that I fucked up on Riley’s right hand on the WIP. I noticed that when I was halfway done with coloring cast and throne. I’m not always up to rectify things like that, but as this would stick out like a sore thumb I redid the hand and copied the lineart again, effectively starting over. Thus, I ended up with an expreimental copy.

Again, I am proud of getting this done, though it also has me wish I were a digital artist already. Don’t expect this a whole lot in the future! ^_^’
