                 Juno waits for Orion’s reaction to their words, chocolate brown hues searching the other and then their expression softens at the smile that lights up Orion’s features, though they ignores the way their heart skips a small beat at the smile being directed at them. They’re just friends, always have been and always will be. Orion’s already in love and Juno’s trying to help Orion out with that, Juno knew this all too well.

                  They’re a mix of surprised and not surprised at the one-armed hug but after a moment they’re laughing softly. Typical Orion fashion. “Probably set the building on fire, forget to eat your dinner and forget that sleep is a necessary thing.” The teasing rolls off Juno’s tongue before they can stop themselves, it was just too easy in their opinion.

“In my defense, the fire was only once.” Unfortunately, food and sleep were still often neglected. So Juno wasn’t wrong about that; Orion would just get so absorbed in his projects, and plans, and even schoolwork... If they weren’t his roommate, Orion probably would have gotten hospitalized a time or two.

“Ah... Speaking of which, is it dinner time yet? ‘Cause all I’ve got left is soldering these wires together, and booting this up for a test run... It should only take, what, a few minutes?” Not in the slightest.

There’s a yawn as they set the tea down, Orion blearily blinking at the cup. Slowly panning up to look at Juno. “Mm... I’m fine, really...” He reached back to stretch, eyes focusing back on his laptop. “I still gotta get this paper done soon... Deadline’s at midnight.”

“ let’s go for a walk. sitting here all cooped up will only make it worse. ” ( hands u juno again )

“The outside is gross and hot. I refuse.” It was actually a nice day outside... But Orion still stuck his tongue out at them, stubbornly remaining at the table. “I’m still trying to figure this new plan out. I’m close, I can feel it...!” No he wasn’t. Not even remotely. But if he didn’t get this down right in time, he wouldn’t be able to get it properly set up.

Orion paused for a moment at the declaration, staring at Juno as he just...registered what his friend just said. After a moment, though, a smile finally appeared on his face. It made him feel a bit warm to hear that.

“I’m glad.” He reached over, giving Juno a quick, one-arm hug. Since the other was still buried deal in one of his prototype robots. “I dunno what I’d do without you, Juno.”

“Would you believe me if I said that it wasn’t entirely my fault?” Orion was honestly, clearly, very shaken, sitting carefully in a nearby chair before actually taking a look at himself. What was supposed to be an improved scooter battery had quite literally blown up in his face. At least he had already cleaned off the worst of the acid from his face and arms, but between that, and the shrapnel...

It definitely stung like hell. He stared at his hands for a moment, internally glad that he didn’t see that anything serious had happened to them. “I don’t think I need to? I just... I think I need a washcloth.” Orion suddenly let out a laugh, his fingers running through his hair. “Fuck...! Things normally don’t explode like that on accident. Not on me, at least!”

Well! Takumi was impressed by Orion’s impulse control today. He was happy to see him acting a little more responsibly. 

Maybe Takumi was even happier that Orion expressed wanting to stay on their prior commitment for the day as well. It was probably silly to consider, but it’d made Takumi feel kind of special to think Orion was able to brush off his crush in favor of spending time with him. There were times he’d been worried he was just bothering the older scientist with this “naïve optimism” that people generally attributed to the cyber sleuth, but surely he wouldn’t be willing to spend as much time humoring Takumi, considering how they met, or what Orion’s been capable of doing.

It might have been fancy on Takumi’s part, but it certainly gave him a warm feeling inside.

“Yeah, food sounds good.” He grins back, as they fell back into step. Takumi hefted the bag he’d been carrying, considering the ingredients they’d bought before stumbling across the agent on the job. “Between the two of us, it shouldn’t take long to prepare the curry. The rice at home’s already washed, so that saves us some time.”

“Honestly, I never even realized that washing rice was a thing.” It was definitely something he learned from Takumi. Back home, rice had always been as simple as dumping it into a pot. Though he had to admit, washing it made it better somehow... Though he still did it the simpler way if he was cooking it alone.

Orion’s hands slipped into his pockets as they headed back, glancing down at the bag of ingredients. This was going to be his first time making curry, too. If there was one thing he was worried about, it was messing it up. Robots and computers? Easy. Cooking? Now that was going to be the tricky thing. “Do we really need so many carrots?” he asked after a moment. Carrots were one of his least favorite foods. They were always so...mushy when they were cooked.

“Really, it’s fine. I’m not too broken up about it.” Really, he’s heard worse from people closer to him… Which wasn’t a super great statement about his circle of friends, but that was a whole other jar of pickles on its own.

“I’d understand if you wanted to go see what they were up to?” Takumi offered. Although he had a sort of hot-button for stalkerish behaviors, he was used to clandestine methods of gathering intel, (he supposed there was a fine line in there, but he had an excellent track record of maintaining professionalism.). 

In any case, if Orion was going to worry about it, it might have been safer to do so while Takumi could keep an eye on him. The mad scientist was behaving somewhat better these days, but something like this could make for a bad spill of a relapse.

He was tempted. Oh, was Orion tempted. This was the first time in forever since he’d run into his crush. Definitely the first that it was done outside of some kind of chaotic situation... It’d be pretty damn easy to just follow them, find out some new information that he could use. Hell, any other time, Orion probably would have already run off after them. He would have snatched the opportunity before it could get away.

“...Nah.” After a moment of genuine contemplation, he turned away with a shrug. “I don’t really feel like it today. I mean... We’ve been planning this for a bit. It’d be stupid just to fuck off like that.” Orion gave Takumi a grin, his hands moving to rest on his hips. Honestly, getting a brief moment to talk to the agent, and having it turn out like that...

Takumi was a hell of a lot nicer, that’s for sure. Why someone like the redhead would be nice to him, Orion had no idea... But he found himself preferring that to what just happened. It definitely felt better than being yelled at.

I’m not unused to comments like that…” As accommodating as the local authorities were to him simply because he was an associate of Kyoko, there were still plenty of individuals who’d write Takumi off as an investigator simply because of his age. He supposed he didn’t exactly display the hardened experience he’d gained in his time as a cyber sleuth upon a glance.

“They’re probably all caught up with their investigations too. I’m not too entirely concerned about their personal opinion.” Takumi was willing to allow the agent some benefit of the doubt, and maybe stress had made their attitude a little more needlessly abrasive…

“That...doesn’t make it much better...” Still, it wasn’t like there was much Orion could do about it. Be disappointed, yes; Takumi’s first impression of the one he liked got to be a sour one. And even without that, it was pretty clear that the agent didn’t recognize Orion, either. Which meant that, despite his efforts, he hadn’t left a lasting impression on anyone.

Well.... Except for Takumi. That should probably bother him more, but, somehow? Orion didn’t mind that so much.

He let out a sigh, his hands resting on his hips. “Whatever. I can probably find them again later. We’re supposed to be doing something today, not looking for them.” Orion wasn’t going to let one bad bit ruin their time together!
