There’s been like three or four television cartoons created by women in the past 30 years but some geezer on TVtropes is really really adamant that it’s not an important topic of discussion.
TVTropes has problems. Its forum is basically a pit of unending despair and horror. It may have changed since I last checked, but a while back, there was actually virtually no crossover between forum users and actual editors, and the forums had rules and attitudes that tended to actively encourage MRAs, white supremacists, etc and punish people who said they weren’t acceptable.
Depends where you look. The On-Topic Conversations is surprisingly civil, and it’s actually attracted a lot of hate from people that it’s too feminist (which is usually a good indicator that a forum isn’t full of crap).
Once you get into the media forums and Yack Fest, that’s where things start to become a lot more full of weird shit.
The weird shit in Yack Fast is mostly just… weird, though. Not offensive, just kinda strange.
I’m confused.
Do people expect the editors to be a completely separate group of people from the forum groups?
Additionally, I know that most of the groups I’ve been in have had active discussions on if a trope listed on the wiki is incorrectly placed there because of sexism/homophobia/racism/etc and usually the trope ends up rewritten to avoid the Unfortunate Implications or the trope might be removed from that page entirely.
I would also like to point out that any forum or group on the internet is going to have awful awful people on it. Tumblr is a good example of that. TV Tropes is no different. There’s rotten apples is ever bunch.

I can’t speak for Yack fest or On-topic, but I do frequent the media forums. And you gotta be careful there, honestly. Some threads aren’t so bad(The general MLP thread for example is great, despite being usually off topic more then 3/4ths of the time), but the problem is that theirs some posters there are...Annoying. To say the least. And If I’m correct, the person the OP is referring to is one of the worst one I’ve met there. I’m not naming names, don’t want to start anything. But I think I might have an idea of who that is.
This is for all the unsung fic writers; the ones who don’t make the must-read lists, the ones who don’t get recced, the ones who don’t get hundreds of kudos, the rarepair writers out on the peripheries of fandom, the ones who toil away quietly for the handful of people who read and love them. You matter - you’re a writer too, and don’t you ever forget it. :)
