Hermit memes because brainrot
Hello Tumblr, it has been a little while. I’d love to say that I have been practicing hard at the art as per the point of this blog but the truth of the matter is no, I have not been, I was procrastinating very hard and just generally being lazy. That’s over now and I have discovered the regret that is trying to do anything artistic after a 3 week gap. Now I’m the sort of person who believes that when you’re learning something and trying to improve, you should share the failures as well as the successes. With that in mind, behold the latest monstrosity which I attempted. I don’t know the context behind this image or who those two people are but I asked a group of friends to send me an image to draw without any forewarning and I have paid the price for my hubris. I have nothing positive to say about this absolute shitpost of a drawing except this. I still managed to learn a thing or two, so it’s never a waste of time!
First art of 2021, decided to just go for a nice simple sketch in both cases since I lack the energy right now to do much more. I’ve never really drawn flowers before but I think flower number 2 turned out very pretty. First sketch is a snowdrop and the second is a tulip. If you knew before reading this bit, then I’ve done a decent job!
So first off, Happy New Year to those who see this when I first post it!
To paraphrase a quote I read at the start of my art journey: “Don’t say to yourself that you can’t draw something. Instead, say that you can’t draw it well, then give it a go anyway”
Anyway snek go blep.
So Christmas beat me into a food coma and activated lazy mode to the absolute fullest which meant I never touched anything related to artwork in a few days. However, I was reminded of the art progress blog and the whole “made it to guilt myself into doing work” thing and decided it was time to bite the bullet and give lighting and shading ago.  First image is some basic shapes, which was my first proper attempt at shading anything. Second image is the return of a certain Phoenix Person, who has now had some basic shading applied to places where I thought it made sense. I’ll probably look back on this one day and shake my head in exasperation but in the meantime I think it’s turned out not too shabby.
I FRICKEN LOVE THEM
So I was discussing Monster Prom with my good buddy @truncatedgrip and long story short this was the end result, their very own OC drawn by me. Â
They’re a Phoenix.
I decided to add colour, cause I do that now when I can be bothered to tidy up my line work. One day I’ll figure out how lighting works too.
Been a quiet few days but I’ve not abandoned the art journey.
So this is one of my OCs, Anna the Half Elf Ranger, who I drew just over a month ago when I first started on my new hobby. At the time I’d been going for something like 4 days and since I got the proportions to look mostly human I decided to make that my comparison drawing for future reference. Since then I’ve both learned how to draw faces (mostly) and how to use digital art as well. So behold, a comparison drawing showing my one and a bit month progress. I’m feeling pretty good about it.
So two things today. First off, I’ve changed drawing programs so the last couple days have been spent playing with that instead of actually doing much in the way of art. The second thing was that I was asked to draw Zuko from ATLA while I was doing head proportion practice, so here he is, with colours even! Â
First time drawing a character from out of any animation and honestly kinda rushed but I had fun anyway.
Nothing new to present today, mostly been technical practice and I don’t think it’s very interesting to post a picture of a bunch of circles. However, I did decided to go back to Hel and give her some colour and a slight tidy up. I’ve got exactly zero experience in actually colouring a drawing properly/shading things nice but I figured might as well share.
Another day another doodle. Today I decided to go for another bird similarly to Robin yesterday but this lad gave me enough trouble that I didn’t go for colour. In the end, the wings were just me doing what I could to get rid of lots of empty space but seeing as this is a progress blog, I’m making a point of posting drawings that might not quite hit my own standards, because I’m simultaneously a perfectionist and a lazy git. Anyway, Barn Owl.
Little bit more practice tonight, because I felt like it. First attempt at putting some colour into my drawings and I think it turned out not too bad. Â
So today I was asked to try and draw a bee. After suffering through some drawing pad issues, this was the resultant little dude. Bees are fuzzy.
The most recent work in progress, Hel from Norse Mythology. I’ve been going daft listening to Emblas Saga by Brothers of Metal and this one was inspired by that. Technically not finished but knowing my attention span this might be as far as the poor girl gets before I go draw someone else.
So this one is a more recent traditional sketch which @truncatedgrip inspired by dragging me into Monster Prom. Oz, from Monster Prom!
Oh boy oh boy
Been a while since I posted anything on this blog but here we are. So, this account has sat gathering dust for roughly forever and I decided that since I’m learning art, I may as well repurpose it as a place to share my stuff and keep track of my progress. I have absolutely no formal training and I started learning how to draw stuff traditionally like a month ago. But I recently transferred to digital where I’ve learned I know absolutely not a goddamn thing and I figure I should share my work because why the hell not. It’ll be fun, I hope.
