E3
So, it’s E3 this week. As anyone unfortunate enough to follow my main blog, Scrapyard Saint, knows I spend way too much of my time playing videogames. So this time of year is fairly important to me.
But yet again, we get another round of games where they still haven;t put the effort in to make the archery look right. Please, developers, in the name of Mario’s mustachioed bollocks, do some research.
For example there’s Horizon: Zero Dawn, which look interesting in a Merida from Brave fighting evil Zoids kinda way. Shame the devs have the main character doing that “stealthy” horizontal bow-underarm draw that would result in fuck all power and sore biceps. (Not the only game that does this one)
As for Scalebound, despite it looking dull as fuck, what the hell was going on with the main character’s release?
Yeah, I know this is just a nitpick really, but as games got me into archery (do not ask how many hours I’ve put into Skyrim) I’d like to see an improvement here. If the film industry can hire archery coaches, surely the games industry which is worth about twice as much can phone someone up?
Recently I decided I needed and extra pocket/pouch on my quiver belt for the ever growing assortment of bow related crap I seem to be carrying around. Instead of buying one of the archery branded pouches you can get I looked into climbers chalk pouches and saw this little fella (Bruno by 8b+).
I’m sure there’s a joke about a hairy cyclops in this somewhere, but I’ll leave that to filthier minds.
So, my fletching jig just fell apart on me (TBH I'm surprised that Cartel POS lasted this long). Do any of you have recommendations for a replacement?
So, is everyone doing the deconstructed equipment pics? I’m tempted to add mine, but with 5 bows, over 60 arrows and all kinds of assorted crap I may need to clear some space.
I love these arrow bookends I got today.
The choice of books in the photo probably says a lot about me...
The best of today’s practice. Not bad considering the wind that was blowing stuff everywhere and my frozen hands.
I really need to find gloves I can shoot in.
Finally back after a couple of months off from shooting.
New Hoyt Prodigy with Quattro limbs and Mybo Certo stabilisers picked up from Merlin Archery yesterday.
Can’t wait to spend hours shooting this beaut.
First episode of my video blog is now up with a review of the Mybo Viva target quiver from @MerlinArchery Finally, a week later than hoped due to a nasty stomach bug, here's the first Scrapyard Archery video blog.
It's happening!
It’s happening!
It’s been a while since I posted about making video blogs. So here’s a quick update. Today I got the basic preliminary footage shot for four episodes. Over the next week and a bit I’ll shoot any close-ups I need, the basics for a few more episodes and then I start editing. So far I’ve learned/re-learned; yes, you do need lots of light; that much lighting is hot and sweaty; green-screens are a…

Coming Soon! Dusting off my video and sound gear soon. Watch this space.
John Green Memorial Shoot.
John Green Memorial Shoot.
As my last couple of entries stated, I attended my first competition on the 19th April. Here’s a few thoughts on the whole thing.
As I said before I signed up to this shoot for two reasons, I’ve been wanting to try competing for ages, and it was a memorial for the man who taught me to shoot. So I signed up only really half knowing what I was going in for.
I didn’t really feel any nerves until the…

Just got back from my first ever archery competition. 2nd place (handicap adjusted) in my bow class (gents’ recurve)
More thoughts to follow on my WP blog when I’m less sore and have gathered my thoughts.
This should be fun...
This should be fun…
So, I’ve entered my first proper competition type thing this coming Sunday. I should probably be more nervous than I am, but as I treat archery more as a recreational thing than a serious sport, I’m just going for the experience.
The main reason I signed up is it’s a memorial shoot in honour of my club’s late president. He taught me to shoot, helped me pick out my first set of gear, and this…

It's good to be back.
It’s good to be back.
So, it’s been about a month since I’ve shot, or even written about archery. Sometimes life just gets in the way.
Finally, thanks to the lengthening daylight hours, I got to shoot for a bit after work tonight.
I tested out the new string I made for my recurve and was pretty pleased it didn’t explode in my face. It still needs a little work and the brace height adjusting, but fairly pleased…

Nock-out
One problem associated with tightening groups is nock damage.
As you can see in the below picture, sometimes they get pretty much destroyed. This leaves very little to get a grip on when trying to remove them.
All hope is not lost, however. As you can see from the closeup on the left, there is a small hole in the middle of the nock. Take a fine screw and screw it into this hole a…
