"Why do you buy books when the library is right there?"
Because publishing houses will not continue printing paper books if libraries are their only customers.
Also, I like being able to read at my leisure and generally have books at hand.
#public libraries are good because they let people access books they might never otherwise read#private book ownership is good because it's Yours#physical books are good because they last a long time and again it's Yours#ebooks are good because you can fit a whole library into the physical space of a single book and they're cheaper to produce#audiobooks are good because they're accessible to people with eyesight or visual reading issues and leave your hands free#in conclusion: all books are good and people should enjoy them however and whenever they can#(lest it be misunderstood I agree with you completely OP I just also really like books in general and it got away from me)
YES. all books. every kind

As an older queer, allow me to say: the walls of the closet are load-bearing. It is our job as a community to stand in front of that door and tell everyone who wants to peek inside to fuck off.
There are so many reasons a person may choose not to come out and there is no reason a person would owe the public or a stranger that information. Certainly it's not owed simply because someone is famous.
We have fought for decades to make it safer for people to be open and authentic about themselves, but we are not yet there. And even if we were, the closet would still be something we need to maintain for those who are not ready to reveal that part of themselves.
May we never become so obsessed with representation that we forget the sanctity of privacy.
legend tells of a mysterious being called ānuanceā that allows multiple things to be true at the same time. some say you can still hear its voice whispering in the trees
AU where Shane starts talking to this guy in Russia and everyone thinks heās getting scammed. Shane has never had a FaceTime/video call with this guy and Shaneās like āitās because heās in the Russian countryside taking care of his sick father. The internet they have out there canāt support a video callā. Shane shows them photos of a beautiful man, and everyone thinks the photos are stolen from a random IG account. Then, the guyās dad dies. Shane tells everyone that he sent the guy money to come to Canada. Shane explains the man has a trust but he doesnāt have access to it yet, and heāll pay Shane back once he gets access. They all think Shane was just scammed. They think the sick dad was a sob story created to get money.
On the day the Russian is suppose to land in Ottawa, Yuna and David clean up Shaneās childhood bedroom and make sure they have enough beer, wine and liquor for the inevitable heartbreak. Theyāre debating if they should tell Shaneās friends to come over when their front door opens, and in walks Shane with the stunning man from the photos. Yuna and David are frozen in shock as Shane introduces Ilya to them. Ilya also wasnāt lying about the trust. Turns out his motherās family was super wealthy and she left Ilya a lot of money. Once Ilya gets access to the trust, he pays Shane back and then invests the rest. Ilyaās investments are so successful and he ends up with so much money that Shaneās friends are begging Shane to find them a hot Russian to date.
The crazy thing is, ninety-nine times out of a hundred, if you asked me on any given day "Would like to see a picture of some genitals?" my answer would be "š° No, that's... No, thank you. I'm okay, actually." I have nothing but the utmost respect for people who do engage with the penis side of the internet, but personally, I've spent the better part of two decades doing all I can NOT to have pictures of dick and balls or sexy bikini babe buttcheeks blasted onto my retinas constantly. And yet... to be denied the penis? To have a jumped up pile of javascript tell me, a grown adult with an air fryer and an outstanding council tax bill, that I cannot be trusted to withstand the sight of a bare nipple unless I let it scan my drivers' license? I will move heaven and earth to see that fucking nipple, friend. I will walk a thousand miles barefoot on hot coals before I give you big brother bitches my passport number. A thousand miles through the desert with five VPNs just to press my face up against the glass and see the last uncensored picture of two My Little Pony Characters sixty-nining each other, and I don't even want! to look at it! But I will! I must! for the sake of our fucking democracy!
yeah yeah rainbow capitalism is bad and whatever but like. when I was a child, being pro gay was not the popular or lucrative choice. I'm happy that times have changed.
I miss rainbow capitalism. I do. I miss when it felt like public opinion was still pro gay. I understand it was always an empty gesture, but it mattered in a sense of knowing how socially acceptable being queer is. If that makes sense.
ppl keep leaving tags on that post about being loud about your aromanticism saying theyre hearing the word amatonormativity for the first time and like its good that ppl learn the word and what it means but its also like. man. idk its just that even other queer ppl are not educated on aromanticism and uphold amatonormativity.
this sucks im going to kill (remembers suicide jokes are bad for my mental health) the president of the United States. (end statement)
