Opnaut’s Surprise

This series is about the experience of depression.  You end up trapped inside yourself, unable to relate to the things that make you happy.

It’s like being stuck in an environmental suit where you can interact with your environment, but you can’t really experience it.

OpNaut is excited about his gift, and shakes it to try and hear what's inside.  He can't really hear anything through his helmet, but it's fun to guess anyway!

It’s like being stuck in an environmental suit where you can interact with your environment, but you can’t really experience it.

Skewba can’t experience the icecream the way it is intended to be enjoyed, and he’s not really sure how to recover from the disappointment. He’s already so sad, can you really blame him?

April 2016 I did this piece for a show called Garden Inspirations. Cactus became interesting subject matter for me.  They are highly specialized plants that are built for endurance.  They have adapted to protect themselves from predators and the harsh environments where they grow.  And they only bloom once a year. I'm trying to take some lessons from the Cactus...
